The ER Technician in the Emergency Department assists the RN and Physician with patient care. They carry out delegated tasks within their scope of practice, ensuring holistic, family‑centered care and quality guest relations. Responsibilities include meeting the education, physical, and psychosocial needs of patients based on age‑specific requirements, involving patients and families in care plans, responding promptly to staff and patient requests, and upholding standard care protocols.
Qualifications- Texas licensure as an Emergency Medical Technician with 2 years of hospital ER experience.
- Texas licensure as a Paramedic with 2 years of hospital ER experience.
- Certification as a Certified Medical Assistant (CMA) with at least two years experience in a hospital ER.
- BLS required; ACLS and PALS preferred.
- Strong oral and written communication skills.
- Flexible and service‑oriented.
- Problem‑solving and critical thinking in an emergency setting.
- Maintaining quality, safety, and infection control standards.
- Calm and effective response in emergencies.
- Potential physical activity such as heavy lifting, pushing, and/or pulling objects over 100 lbs.
- Maintain continuing education as required for licensure.
- Carry out delegated tasks as assigned by RN and/or Physician within EMT scope of practice.
- Follow protocols written by the medical director concerning specimen collection.
- Accurately document in EMR, maintain patient privacy, adhere to HIPAA.
- Accurately record lab results and report critical values promptly.
- Assist nurses in direct patient care and stabilization.
- Stock departments and rooms daily.
- Exhibit a positive attitude toward duties and customer service.
- Ensure all chest pain patients receive an EKG within 10 minutes of arrival.
- Respond promptly to calls for assistance from staff and patients.
- Provide comfort measures during patient rounds.
- Coordinate patient care activities with nurses.
- Maintain clean, organized ED areas and return/clean equipment after use.
- Proactively look for ways to improve patient care.
- Collect and process specimens timely.
- Promote a positive image of Signature Care EM Center in all interactions.
- May be required to work holidays and weekends as needed.
- Fast‑paced emergency room duties.
- Must lift or move using proper mechanics; may request assistance.
- Stand, walk, sit frequently; sometimes stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
- Subject to random drug screenings.
