Overview

Texas Oncology is seeking a Regional Oncology Float Pool Registered Nurse (RN) to join our NETX (Northeast Texas) Regional Float Pool Team. The role will provide cross‑coverage in Medical Oncology, Radiation Oncology, and Infusion nursing units, rotating through select clinics across the Northeast Texas Region. The Float Pool offers a dedicated team, diverse assignments, and flexibility across the NETX region.

Schedule: Full‑time, Monday–Friday, daytime hours.

Perks: No weekends, on‑call, or major holidays.

Position level (Level I, II, or Senior) will be based on candidate experience.

Texas Oncology is the largest community oncology provider in the U.S., serving half of all Texans diagnosed with cancer annually, with more than 600 providers across 300 sites in Texas and southeastern Oklahoma. Our mission is to deliver high‑quality, evidence‑based cancer care worldwide.

Responsibilities
  • Assess, plan, coordinate, and evaluate patient care.
  • Conduct health assessments, obtain patient histories, and provide education.
  • Offer psychosocial support to patients and families.
  • Safely prepare and administer therapies (medications, blood products) per governing standards.
  • Perform venipuncture, access ports, and maintain central lines.
  • Monitor labs, facilitate dose modifications per protocol, and consult with providers for orders.
  • Manage triage calls, symptom management, and medication management with accurate documentation.
  • Assist patients in accessing community resources.
  • Opportunity to cross‑train and expand into subspecialty areas (Gyn Onc, BMT, Pediatrics) as the Float Pool role evolves.
  • Follow the Nursing Float Pool Playbook for role‑specific expectations.
Qualifications Level I
  • Graduate from an accredited program for professional nursing education; BSN preferred.
  • RN state license and current registration with the State Board of Nursing in the practicing state.
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) certification.
  • Maintain required continuing education.
  • Minimum one (1) year of experience.
  • Oncology Certified Nurse (OCN®) or prior oncology/infusion/radiation experience strongly preferred.
  • Strong IV and central line skills preferred.
  • Comfort supporting multiple areas of oncology care; interested in developing skills in subspecialties such as Gyn Onc, BMT, or Pediatrics.
  • Excellent critical thinking and communication abilities.
  • Comfort with EHR systems (OncoEMR, Epic, or similar).
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus.
  • Flexibility, adaptability, and strong interpersonal skills to thrive in diverse clinical environments.
Level II
  • In addition to Level I requirements.
  • Minimum three (3) years of nursing experience; oncology experience strongly preferred.
Level Senior
  • In addition to Levels I and II requirements.
  • Minimum five (5) years nursing experience, including at least one year in oncology strongly preferred.
Working Conditions

The work environment includes exposure to communicable diseases, toxic substances, ionizing radiation, medical preparations, and other conditions typical of oncology/hematology clinic settings. Reasonable accommodations for disabilities may be provided.

Physical Requirements

Require full range of body motion, handling and lifting patients, manual and finger dexterity, eye‑hand coordination. Must stand and walk for extensive periods and occasionally lift items up to 40 lbs. Requires normal vision and hearing with correction.
