The Cadet Life Supervisor (CLS) is responsible for the direct supervision, safety, character development, and daily accountability of cadets in a structured boarding school environment. This position serves as a foundational component of the Character and Leadership Development Program (CLDP) and plays a critical role in advancing the Academy’s mission. The CLS upholds the standards of the Cadet Manual, the Employee Handbook, and all institutional policies.
The primary responsibility of a CLS is to maintain safety and security for cadets.
When the assigned hall is occupied, the CLS functions as the primary residential supervisor. When the hall is not occupied, the CLS operates as a CLS/School Security Officer and conducts campus patrols, gate operations, emergency response, and general safety duties as outlined in the Security Post Orders.
The CLS reports directly to the Director of Student Life & Security and operationally to the Commandant’s Office. Although the CLS collaborates closely with Student Services, the Director of Student Life and the Commandant retain final authority for all supervisory, disciplinary, and operational decisions.

- Serve as a visible, supportive, and nurturing adult presence for all students.
- Maintain confidentiality and comply with HIPAA/PII standards.
- Uphold the Employee Handbook, Cadet Manual, and all R-MA policies.
- Work collaboratively with Academic, Athletic, Maintenance, Housekeeping, and Student Services departments.
- Exercise sound independent judgement in matters of student welfare, safety, and discipline.
- Maintain professionalism, moral character, consistency, empathy, and composure in all situations.
- Must believe in and support the mission and vision of the Academy.
- Set Full-time schedule - typically 3-11 pm
- Flexibility required to support campus events, emergencies, and operational needs (homecoming, cadet arrivals and departures).
- Summer residential and program support expected as part of year‑round employment.
- CLS are off duty when students are not in session but are paid throughout the year. This equates to roughly 60 days off a year in exchange for some flexibility and training that occurs before school starts and mid year.

The CLS is a mission‑centered role critical to the culture, safety, and leadership development of the Corps of Cadets. This position requires a high level of maturity, sound judgment, and dedication to shaping young adults in accordance with the values of Randolph‑Macon Academy.
Qualifications/Minimum Requirements- Demonstrated ability and desire to work with 13-19 year old student groups.
- Strong communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
- Valid driver’s license.
- Ability to remain calm, consistent, and authoritative in high‑stress situations.
- Ability to walk campus grounds, climb stairs, conduct patrols, and respond to emergencies.
- Ability and willingness to drive 14 passenger vehicles, as needed.
- Completion of Virginia DCJS SSO training, Stop the Bleed training, and maintain currency with school systems (MAGNUS, Raptor, Mosyle, Blackbaud, REACH) and complete and maintain CPR/AED in addition to 40+ hours of annual training.
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Student Development, Psychology, Leadership, or related field.
- Experience in residential life, boarding schools, youth programs, military environments, or security roles preferred.
- First Aid, CPR, AED, and Medication Administration certification (or ability/willingness to obtain quickly).
- Experience with student leadership development programs.
