Law Enforcement Certified Deputy Sheriff
- Investigator opportunity. Warren County is seeking candidates who are currently certified in law enforcement to fill the position of Deputy Sheriff - Investigator. This position performs intermediate to complex law enforcement duties for the Sheriff’s Office. The work may be performed under emergency conditions and involve considerable personal hazard.

Responsibilities- Enforce laws, investigate criminal activity, ensure the safety of the public, testify in court, maintain records and files, and prepare reports.
- Five years of law enforcement experience, with at least two years of experience assigned primarily as an investigator/detective. Candidates should have knowledge of investigative methods, general knowledge of the geography of the County, knowledge of the Sheriff’s Office rules and regulations, ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions, and to prepare clear, comprehensive reports. Also required is the ability to deal courteously, firmly and tactfully with the public, analyze situations, and adopt quick, effective and reasonable courses of action with due regard to hazards and circumstances, physical agility and endurance, skill in the use of firearms and operation of a motor vehicle, and the ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with associates and the general public.
- Education:
Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduating from high school. Must have basic law enforcement and firearms certifications and meet minimum training and experience requirements for the position as established by the Sheriff’s Office and the Commonwealth of Virginia. Special requirements include possession of an appropriate driver’s license valid in the Commonwealth of Virginia and a minimum of five years certified law enforcement experience, with at least two years assigned to a primary role of investigator/detective. - Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential tasks.
Salary range is $52,956.80 to $58,427.20 based on experience, with an excellent benefits package. The position is offered with a sixty hour paid leave sign-on bonus, clothing allowance, and on-call pay.
