As a member of the Town's Horticulture team, maintenance worker's perform skilled and unskilled work in a variety of landscape maintenance projects to include the planting and maintenance of trees, shrubs, and flowers; landscape construction and repair projects; tree pruning and removal; mowing and trimming; etc. The Town is seeking an enthusiastic and responsible individual to join our team and help keep our community looking its best!

Responsibilities- Perform property maintenance tasks; operate mowers, weed eater, blowers, edger and other equipment as needed; trim shrubs and bushes
- Plant grass, trees and flowers; seed, fertilize, and aerate fields
- Perform manual labor tasks in the maintenance and repair of public facilities, buildings, grounds, streets, utilities, and related facilities
- Operate all manner of hand tools such as shovels, rakes, brooms, pitch forks, hose trowels, weed diggers, pruners, loppers, and hand saws
- Inspect and clean high visibility areas for ground trash and debris; collect ground trash in all areas before mowing; pick up and dispose of debris and deceased animals from the roadway
- Operate dump trucks, mowers, chain saws, pumps, mixers, trimmers, tractors, skid loader and similar equipment
- Assist with equipment maintenance and repair
- Perform flagging duties
- Assist with snow and ice removal
- Education:
High School Diploma or GED - Experience:
One or more years of experience in horticulture maintenance such as mowing, pruning, mulching, planting and weeding - Must possess a valid driver's license
- Must possess or have the ability to obtain a Class B CDL license certification within six (6) months of employment
- Must have the ability to obtain a Flagger Certification within three (3) months of employment
- Knowledge of mowing equipment and landscape maintenance tools
- Some knowledge of proper planting techniques for trees, shrubs and flowers
- Ability to operate mowing equipment, chain saw, and power pole saw
- Ability to perform manual labor and work for extended time periods under various climatic conditions
- Ability to communicate in a clear and concise manner both orally and in writing
- Ability to understand and follow specific oral instructions to complete tasks in a timely manner
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with co-workers and other departments
- This position is subject to outside environmental conditions to include extreme heat, extreme cold, noise, animals and insects, traffic and other hazards, and atmospheric conditions
- Potential exposure to pesticides including herbicides, insecticides, miticides and cleaning chemicals
- Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) provided
- This is medium work requiring the exertion of 50 pounds of force occasionally, up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and up to 10 pounds of force constantly. Some heavy work requiring up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, 50 pounds of force frequently, and up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
- Requires walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, climbing, kneeling, standing, crouching and stooping
- Vocal communication is required for exchanging ideas and receiving orders, hearing to perceive information at normal spoken word levels
- Visual acuity is required for the operation of machinery and motor vehicles and to determine the accuracy and thoroughness of work
- Daily exposure to outside environmental conditions such as heat, cold, noise, traffic, wind, rain and snow
