The incumbent is responsible under general supervision for the repair work, training and supervision of incarcerated individuals in the electrical trade at a State Correctional Facility. Incumbent may perform more complex or security sensitive maintenance and repair task from time to time and may work out of his assigned trade when needed.

A Correctional Maintenance Officer‑I Electrical is the entry level of work involving the custody, security and supervision of adult incarcerated individual in correctional institutions. Employees in this classification do not supervise other positions. Employees in this classification receive close supervision from a Supervisor. Employees are assigned to day, evening, night or rotating shifts Position duties include:
Incarcerated individual supervision including : maintainingcontrol and discipline among incarcerated individualworkers; conducting searches for contraband items; administering verbal or written disciplinary actions enforcing safety, sanitary, custody and security rules and regulations. Assigning installation maintenance or repair tasks to designated incarcerated individualperforming at various levels of proficiency in the trade. Training and instructing incarcerated individuals regarding methods and techniques, use of tools and equipment, and proper care of tools and equipment.

Inspecting and approving/disapproving all work performed by incarcerated individuals for adherence to quality standards. Estimating time, materials and supplies to conductassignedmaintenanceor repair tasks. Ordering materials and supplies, keepingrecords and inventory of materials and tools. Personallypreform certain installation, maintenanceor repairtakes on electrical infrastructure. Planning and implementing procedures. Operating hand and power tools and equipment needed; maintaining record of time. Escorting third party vendors and inspecting completed work assignment.

• Education:
  
  Graduation from an accredited high school or possession of a high school equivalency certificate acceptable to the Maryland State Board of Education as described in the Maryland Correctional Training Commission regulation.
• Experience:
  
  Two years of electrical experience.
• Notes: 1. The above educational requirement is set by the Maryland Correctional Training Commission in accordance with Correctional Services Article, Section 8-209, Annotated Code of Maryland.
  2. Candidates may substitute U.S. Armed Forces military service experience in correctional institutional specialty codes in the criminal justice field of work at a rate of two years of military experience for the required experience.
