POSITION SUMMARY

The psychiatric mental health nurse practitioner (PMHNP) will provide psychiatric evaluation and medication management services. The setting will primarily be outpatient with some potential for offering support on the inpatient service at Family Health West Hospital. The PMHNP will work in coordination with Family Health West’s counseling services to provide psychiatric services to clients of all ages with behavioral health issues.

Services will primarily be office-based with some potential for telehealth services to serve clients at remote locations. The PMHNP will work in collaboration with a medical assistant and medical office specialists to coordinate client care, assist with insurance pre‑authorization, and caseload management.

The best candidates for this position are skilled in assessing and treating a wide range of psychiatric conditions across the lifespan, creative in how they help clients work towards treatment goals, and open to collaboration and communication with other professionals involved in clients’ care.

EDUCATION, LICENSE, CERTIFICATION AND EXPERIENCE
  • Education:

    Has completed master’s degree or higher in nursing with a focus on psychiatric nursing
  • Licenses:
    Licensed to practice as an advanced practice registered nurse (APRN) in the state of Colorado
  • Certifications:

    Board certified as a Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner
  • Experience:

    3+ years experience as a psychiatric provider preferred, ability to work with both adults and youth

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
  • Reliable and punctual attendance is essential; expected to be at job as scheduled each day.
  • Assess, diagnose, and treat adults, adolescents, and children experiencing symptoms of behavioral health disorders.
  • Prescribe and monitor psychotropic medications.
  • Collaborate with counselors, case managers, community agencies, medical providers, school staff, and other treatment team members to coordinate client care.
  • Provide psychotherapy in conjunction with medication management as appropriate.
  • Develop and implement individualized and culturally informed treatment plans based on holistic assessments.
  • Collaborate with guardians, relatives, and significant others on clients’ conditions and treatment when clinically appropriate.
  • Examine or order laboratory or diagnostic tests for clients to provide information on general physical condition and mental disorders.
  • Measure clients’ progress towards therapeutic goals and adjust intervention strategies as needed.
  • Offer immediate support and intervention for individuals experiencing acute mental health crises.
  • Return calls and messages promptly (within 24 hours of receipt or sooner if clinically necessary).
  • Maintain accurate, timely, and complete clinical documentation, including assessments, progress notes, treatment plans, and billing codes.
  • Provide education and consultation on behavioral health topics to other departments at FHW as requested.
  • Prepare and submit assessments, progress notes, reports, and summaries to entities/agencies (funders, insurance companies, etc.) as required.
  • Adhere to relevant laws, policies, and ethical standards related to behavioral health services.
  • Participate in meetings, quality improvement activities, and committees as requested.
  • Other job related duties as assigned.
