Position: Seasonal – Custodial Worker (MVO)

Summary

These positions may be filled for a six month seasonal period, but can vary due to weather conditions, project needs, or funding. Anticipated Entry on Duty:
March-July 2026.

Overview

Open & closing dates: 11/18/2025 to 01/07/2026.

Salary: $20.19 to $25.17 per hour.

Pay scale & grade: WG 4.

Eligibility

Open to the public. U.S. Citizens, Nationals or those who owe allegiance to the United States. Career transition (CTAP, ICTAP, RPL) applicants. Veterans’ preference eligible; non‑preference candidates considered only if preference list exhausted.

Duties

This position performs the full range of custodial work, including cleaning and servicing vault toilets, buildings, campgrounds, and emptying trash receptacles. Positions require operating a government vehicle and may provide general labor assistance to maintenance of buildings, grounds, roads, trails, etc. Employees are uniformed and must respond to visitors politely.

Conditions of Employment
  • U.S. Citizenship required.
  • Subject to background investigation and favorable adjudication.
  • Must meet Selective Service Registration Act requirement for males.
  • Participation in Direct Deposit Electronics Funds Transfer Program required.
  • Government housing may be available depending on location.
  • Part‑time schedules may be available depending on location.
  • Uniform required; allowance provided.
  • Work may include on‑call, evenings, weekends, holidays, overtime, and shift work.
  • Travel overnight may be required occasionally.
  • Training to complete and maintain a government charge card and travel authority may be required.
  • Training to operate a four‑wheel drive vehicle may be required.
  • Valid driver’s license required if a government motor vehicle is operated. Must submit Motor Vehicle Operator’s License, Driving Record, and certified driver’s records from all states.
  • Minimum age 18 years.
Qualifications

To qualify, applicants must have sufficient knowledge and ability in the following job‑related factors:

  • Ability to do the work of the position without more than normal supervision (SCREEN OUT).
  • Ability to use and maintain tools and equipment.
  • Dexterity and safety.
  • Work practices (keeping things neat, clean, and in order).
  • If screening factor one is inadequate, the applicant will not be considered further.

    Education

    There is no substitution of education for experience for Wage Grade (WG) positions.

    Additional Information

    A selectee receiving a first appointment to the Federal Government (Civil Service) is entitled only to the lowest step of the grade. Salary range displayed does not guarantee higher pay.

    Non‑Competitive Rehire Eligibility:

    Physical Effort:
    Moderately heavy physical effort required (e.g., ladder use, powered equipment, lifting >50 lb).
