Overview

The Department of Counseling at California State University, Fullerton, invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor position in Counseling with an appointment to begin Fall 2026. The Department is CACREP-accredited in Clinical Mental Health Counseling and prepares graduate students to seek the Licensed Professional Clinical Counselor (LPCC) and the Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist (LMFT) credentials in California. The Ánimo concentration prepares counselors to provide bilingual/bicultural (Spanish/English) counseling to Latinx communities.

The successful candidate will teach courses that are part of our core CACREP curriculum with the Clinical Mental Health Counseling specialty and, preferred, courses in the Ánimo Latinx Health Counseling Concentration. The Ánimo Concentration addresses the professional, curricular, and training needs of mental health counselors working with Latinx and Spanish-speaking clients and emphasizes bilingual/bicultural practice and social justice advocacy.

Position

The successful candidate will be working in a premier counselor education program in Southern California that enrolls a culturally diverse student body. The candidate will teach in our CACREP-aligned curriculum with a Clinical Mental Health Counseling focus and, if eligible, contribute to the Ánimo Latinx Health Counseling Concentration.

CSUF faculty are expected to engage in teaching, research, advising, and service. Candidates should demonstrate a commitment to multicultural perspectives with an intersectional lens and a track record reflecting that commitment. The faculty will join an experienced, collegial, student-centered environment that values collaboration.

Required Qualifications
  • Doctorate in counselor education, counseling psychology, or related field by appointment date
  • Demonstrated professional identity as a counselor educator with clear affiliations to relevant counseling associations (e.g., ACA/ACES)
  • Broad knowledge of the clinical mental health counseling curriculum
  • Evidence of the ability to conduct research (including dissertation research)
  • University-level teaching experience (including co-teaching and/or guest lecturing)
  • Demonstrated potential for effective integration of technology into instruction
  • Demonstrated awareness/knowledge of racial inequities and challenges faced by historically underrepresented and economically disadvantaged groups
  • Commitment to social justice advocacy through teaching/mentoring, research, and/or service activities
  • Ability to work effectively with students, staff, faculty, and community from intersecting marginalized groups
Preferred Qualifications
  • Knowledge of social justice issues such as critical race theory, liberation psychology, intersectionality, Black feminist or womanist theories, and/or dismantling anti-Black racism
  • Knowledge of Latinx cultures and social justice issues relevant to the Latinx community
  • Bilingual fluency in spoken Spanish and reading/writing Spanish
  • Graduate from a CACREP-accredited program
  • Experience with CACREP accreditation
  • Licensed or license-eligible as a professional counselor in California (e.g., LPC, LPCC)
