Overview

Assistant Professor of Strength and Conditioning — Department of Kinesiology, College of Health and Human Development, California State University, Fullerton. The appointment begins Fall 2026. This is a tenure-track position in Kinesiology.

CSUF faculty are committed teacher/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, centers, labs, and mentored projects. The primary responsibilities include teaching courses within the general area of expertise at the undergraduate and graduate levels (e.g., strength and conditioning courses focused on principles, measurement and testing, exercise techniques, and program design; personal training courses, among others).

The position also involves scholarship commensurate with tenure/promotion, contribution to department life and development, supervision of undergraduate and graduate culminating experiences (e.g., theses, projects), service on committees, and engagement with broader university and disciplinary communities.

• Earned doctorate with an emphasis in strength and conditioning by the time of appointment. ABDs are welcome to apply, but must show evidence that the degree will be completed by the time of appointment.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to provide high-quality undergraduate and graduate education to a diverse student population, including first‑generation college students.
• Developed record of high-quality scholarship appropriate to the level of appointment.
• Demonstrated commitment to equity and inclusion in teaching, scholarship, and/or service.
• Demonstrated ability or potential to work collaboratively with colleagues and/or community partners.

• We are particularly interested in applicants with a research focus in any of the following areas as they relate to strength and conditioning: sport and athletic performance; healthy aging; special populations (e.g., youth or people with disabilities); sport science.
• Hold a current Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS) certification with the National Strength and Conditioning Association (NSCA) or similar internationally recognized organization.
• Potential for developing/obtaining grants and external funding commensurate with stage in career.
• Record of professional involvement, leadership, or service in university, state, national, or international professional organizations, commensurate with stage in career.
