The Department of Asian American Studies (ASAM) at California State University, Fullerton (CSUF), invites applications for a tenure‑track position at the rank of Assistant or advanced Assistant Professor in Asian American Studies with an appointment to begin Fall 2026. The advanced rank will include up to two years of service credit (time counted toward the normal six‑year probationary period).

We seek a teacher‑scholar of ethnic studies or related fields with an emphasis in Asian American or Pacific Islander/Native Pacific studies. CSUF faculty are committed teachers/scholars who bring research and creative discovery to life for students in classrooms, labs, studios, individually mentored projects, and faculty‑student collaborations on papers and presentations. They teach broadly in the curricula of their departments, advise students, serve on departmental and university‑wide committees, and engage in community work.
The primary responsibilities of the person in this position will include the development and teaching of introductory and core courses in Asian American studies and ethnic studies and the development of courses in their area(s) of specialization. This faculty member will also be responsible for producing scholarship or creative work commensurate with the requirements for tenure. The successful candidate will also be expected to contribute to and participate in the life and development of the department, advise students, serve on committees, and participate in the broader university and disciplinary communities.
- Ph.D. in ethnic studies or related field, with an emphasis in Asian American or Pacific Islander/Native Pacific studies, by the time of appointment
- Ability to teach a wide range of Asian American studies and ethnic studies courses
- Demonstrated commitment to and excellence in undergraduate teaching
- Strong record of scholarly or creative accomplishments appropriate to the level of appointment
- Demonstrated commitment to department/university, professional, and community service
- Experience in working collaboratively with colleagues
- Ability to balance excellent teaching, scholarship/creative activity, and service
- Demonstrated commitment to working effectively with students from intersecting marginalized social groups
- Emphases in history; cultural studies (literature, digital/media studies, music); colonialism, empire, and war; queer of color theories; women of color feminist theories; diaspora; and/or community and social movements
- Interdisciplinary, intersectional and/or comparative approaches
