Psychology Instructor

Position Number: 2016591FT. Employment: 100% full-time, tenure track, 10 months per year, full-time schedule.
Primary PurposeSelect and teach psychology courses to a diverse student population, actively participate in curriculum development, committee service, and co‑curricular activities, and support student success.
Responsibilities- Teach scheduled psychology classes, develop culturally relevant course content, and use effective teaching methodologies.
- Participate in curriculum development and serve on department, division, college, and district committees.
- Engage in co‑curricular activities, special programs, and student learning outcomes (SLOs) formulation and assessment cycle.
- Maintain formal office and campus hours; attend department and division meetings.
- Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and new technologies, apply emerging technologies and advances (e.g., computer software applications) as necessary.
- Perform related clerical and administrative duties, comply with district, college, and division policies.
- Support the growth and success of a diverse student population through careful preparation of course materials and informed critical feedback.
- Collaborate cooperatively with staff and students; evening and/or weekend assignments may be required.
- Master’s in psychology OR Bachelor’s in psychology AND Master’s in counseling, sociology, statistics, neuroscience, or social work.
- OR possess a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
- OR equivalent qualifications may include related education, training, employment, and professional experience that would be equal to the required degree(s) and experience as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
- Commitment to diversity; demonstrated sensitivity to diverse backgrounds and equity‑minded practices.
- Clinical background in psychology; ability to mentor students interested in mental health.
- Experience teaching abnormal psychology.
- Experience contributing to or supporting equitable student outcomes through teaching, mentoring, or program involvement.
All degrees and coursework used to satisfy the required minimum qualifications must be verifiable on a legible transcript; grade cards will not be accepted. All degrees and coursework must be from accredited postsecondary institutions. Evaluations of foreign degrees and/or coursework are required.
Working ConditionsSalary Range: $85,541 – $128,379 annually. Open Date: 12/22/2025. Close Date: 02/17/2026.
Application InstructionsInitial salary placement will be determined by the Office of Human Resources in accordance with the faculty collective bargaining agreement and is not negotiable. Candidates must provide official transcripts and verification of experience prior to the first duty day, identification and employment eligibility, fingerprints, and required medical certification.
