Horticulture Instructor
Location: Fullerton College – FC Natural Sciences Department
Employment: 100% full time, 10 months per year, tenure track
Job DescriptionTeach lecture and laboratory courses in ornamental horticulture, landscape management, nursery management, plant propagation, plant identification, landscape construction, landscape contracting, turf management, arboriculture, landscape irrigation, soil science, and related subjects to a diverse student population.
Participate in curriculum development, student learning outcome formulation, and committee service at the department, division, college, and district levels.
Engage in co‑curricular activities such as special programs that support student success, maintain formal office hours, attend meetings, and comply with clerical and administrative responsibilities.
Maintain current knowledge of instructional methods and emerging technologies; apply these to improve teaching effectiveness.
Develop culturally relevant course content, employ culturally responsive pedagogical techniques, and support the growth and success of students from historically underserved backgrounds.
Collaborate with faculty and staff; evening or weekend assignments may be required.
Responsibilities- Teach scheduled lectures and laboratories in horticulture and related fields.
- Develop course materials and assessments aligned with student learning outcomes.
- Provide timely feedback on assignments and facilitate class discussions.
- Serve on department and division committees, curriculum planning sessions, and other institutional activities.
- Maintain office hours and respond to student inquiries.
- Keep up-to-date with instructional technologies and apply them in the classroom.
- Participate in special programs and initiatives that enhance student learning and diversity.
All degrees and course work required to meet the minimum qualifications must be verified with a legible transcript. Grade cards are not accepted.
Foreign degrees must be evaluated for equivalency. Verification of accredited institution status is required; information is available on the district website.
QualificationsMinimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or higher and at least two years of professional experience directly related to the teaching assignment.
- OR Associate degree and at least six years of professional experience.
- OR valid California teaching credential for a community college in the appropriate subject area.
- OR equivalent qualifications as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
- Commitment to diversity and demonstrated sensitivity to the varied backgrounds of community college students.
- Bachelor’s degree in Horticulture or a related field.
- College‑level teaching experience.
- Work experience in the horticulture industry.
- Knowledge of urban agriculture, sustainable horticulture, and emerging sustainable landscape practices.
- Expertise in culturally responsive teaching and addressing equity gaps for racially minoritized groups.
Salary Range: $85,541 – $128,379 Annually
