Job SummaryThis is a continuous recruitment to fill part‑time, temporary faculty assignments on an as‑needed basis. The department will reference the pool of part‑time faculty when the need arises. Candidates will be expected to provide official transcripts, verification of experience, identification, employment eligibility, fingerprints, and required medical certification prior to the first duty day. Reasonable accommodations for applicants with disabilities may be requested at least three business days in advance of the interview date.
EssentialFunctions & Responsibilities
- Teach courses in the biological sciences, including Biology 101 – General Biology.
- Develop, maintain, and update curricula to meet the needs of historically under‑represented students.
- Coordinate and collaborate with full‑time and adjunct faculty to align instructional practices.
- Provide instructional support to students from diverse backgrounds, including non‑traditional students and those with learning disabilities.
- Complete all required administrative duties, including lab safety compliance and student grading.
- Adhere to the district’s policies regarding attendance, communication, and professional conduct.
- Master’s degree in any biological science.
- OR Bachelor's degree in any biological science AND Master’s in biochemistry, biophysics, or marine science.
- OR possession of a valid California teaching credential authorizing service in a community college in the appropriate subject matter area.
- OR equivalent qualifications as determined by the District Equivalency Committee.
- Evidence of degree conferred/awarded on a legible transcript.
- At least one reference.
- Expertise in culturally responsive teaching in biology, including relevance to students’ lives and communities.
- Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps for racially minoritized groups within biology.
- Experience working collaboratively to maintain curricula that respond to the needs of under‑represented students.
- Demonstrated success in supporting students from historically under‑represented or marginalized groups, non‑traditional students, speakers of other languages, and students with learning disabilities.
- Commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion, with demonstrated sensitivity to diverse backgrounds.
