Overview
Help keep our city's most essential resource flowing! The City of Fullerton is seeking a Water Production Operator to join our dedicated team responsible for the safe, efficient operation of the City's water production and distribution systems.
What You’ll Be Doing- Operate and monitor pumping plants and wells to regulate water flow between reservoirs.
- Use the SCADA system to control, monitor, and adjust water system operations.
- Check and maintain disinfecting and treatment equipment to ensure water quality standards are met.
- Inspect, clean, grease, and service motors, pumps, and other mechanical components.
- Record and report system data, including meter readings and flow rates.
- Maintain facilities and grounds around pumping stations.
- Knowledgeable in the operation and maintenance of water treatment and distribution systems.
- Safety-conscious and skilled at working with mechanical and electrical equipment.
- Comfortable using computers and the SCADA control system.
- A clear communicator who can work independently and as part of a team.
- Dependable, flexible, and ready to respond to emergencies, weekends, and holidays as needed.

Any combination of training and experience that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is considered qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications is:
Graduation from high school AND two years of increasingly responsible experience performing water system maintenance, operations, or related duties within a water division of a municipality, special district, or utility.
- A valid Grade 3 Water Distribution Operator Certification issued by the State of California Water Board.
- A valid Grade 2 Water Treatment Operator Certification issued by the State of California Water Board.
- A valid Class C California driver’s license and acceptable driving record.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs, which includes overtime and emergency call-back.
Future salary increase +3% effective July 4, 2026. $5,433 - $6,934 per month.

Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during testing and/or selection.
Appointment and Background CheckEmployment offers are conditional upon the successful completion of a background check, including fingerprinting, drug screening, and a medical examination as required. An appointee will serve a 12‑month probationary period, or 6‑month for promoted City employees.
