PARKS AND RECREATION COORDINATOR

Currently there are two vacancies, one is for the Tennis Center and the other for Special Events; the eligibility list will be used to fill future vacancies that may occur during the life of the list.
What You’ll Be Doing- Planning and running engaging community programs and events.
- Handling registration, budgets, and supplies.
- Supporting the tennis program, managing golf course contracts, facilities, and special events.
- Engage with community members.
- Oversee daily operations of parks, facilities, and lead recreational programs.
- Work closely with staff and volunteers.
- Promote activities and community events.
- A friendly face of the Parks and Recreation team.
- Positive and well‑organized.
- Enthusiastic about planning, coordinating, and promoting programs.
- Knowledgeable in organizing and managing multiple projects.
- Communicates clearly, follows instructions, and builds positive relationships with staff and community.
Under general supervision a Parks and Recreation Coordinator organizes, coordinates, oversees and participates in the activities of one or more parks and recreation programs at a community service center or other location; leads and oversees assigned staff and performs related work as required.
Future Salary Increase3% increase effective July 2026.

Any combination of training and experience, which would provide the required knowledge, skills, and abilities is qualifying. A typical way to obtain the required qualifications would be:
- Graduation from high school plus two years of study at an accredited college or university towards a degree in Recreation, Business Administration, Public Administration, one of the social sciences or a related field.
- Two years of experience in the delivery of parks and recreation programs in a public or not‑for‑profit agency to include some experience in program/project development.
- A valid Class C California driver’s license or the ability to arrange necessary and timely transportation for field travel is required. Employees in this classification will be enrolled in the Department of Motor Vehicles Government Pull Notice Program.
- Must be able to work a flexible schedule to accommodate City needs.
Per California Government Code §3100‑3109, all public employees are declared to be disaster service workers and must take and subscribe to the oath or affirmation as required.
ASSESSMENT PROCEDUREApplicants must be specific and complete in describing qualifications for the position. Based upon the information presented on the application materials, applicants possessing the most suitable qualifications will be invited to a written examination, performance examination, oral interview and/or other assessment instrument.
NOTECandidates who successfully complete the assessment process for Parks and Recreation Coordinator will be placed on an eligible list which will remain in effect for at least one year or until an insufficient number of candidates remain on the list.
All new hires will be fingerprinted. Fingerprints are verified with the California Department of Justice (DOJ) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI).
Current City of Fullerton employees may be given preference during the testing and/or selection process.
All new hires, including non‑regular City of Fullerton employees appointed to this position, will serve a one‑year probationary period. Regular City of Fullerton employees promoted to this position will serve a six‑month probationary period.
