Job SummaryCal State Fullerton is seeking an Environmental Health Officer to join our Environmental Health and Safety team. The position is part of Capital Programs and Facilities Management (CPFM) and focuses on planning, developing, and maintaining a safe, sustainable, and high-quality learning and working environment for the campus community. The Environmental Health Officer is responsible for leading and conducting complex safety audits, inspections, investigations, risk assessments, and environmental health and safety programs necessary to ensure a safe and healthy environment for faculty, staff, students, and the general public.
Aboutthe Position
The Environmental Health Officer works independently under the general supervision of the Associate Director of Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) or designee. The responsible individual is the licensed Registered Environmental Health Specialist (REHS) of record for the campus. The Environmental Health Officer will serve as a subject matter expert and conduct routine inspections, follow-up inspections, complaint/incident investigations, and coordinate environmental health plan review for food and pool safety to ensure compliance with state laws and ensure the public’s health and safety.
The Environmental Health Officer will utilize federal, state, and local regulations to determine environmental health, occupational safety and health, and industrial hygiene compliance. Interact as needed with state and federal regulatory personnel to maintain compliance with existing and new laws. Work requires regular participation in planning and development activities. Independent determination of methods to meet programmatic or administrative goals as required.
Provides consultation and expert advice to the campus community. Interact regularly with students and student organizations to provide professional guidance and mentoring. Assist with other programs within the Environmental Health and Safety Department as needed. Other duties as assigned.
Equivalent to a bachelor’s degree in a related field and four years of relevant experience. Additional experience which demonstrates acquired and successfully applied knowledge and abilities shown above Environmental Health and Safety Professional Series - 7 may be substituted for the required education on a year‑for‑year basis. An advanced degree in a related field may be substituted for the required experience on a year‑for‑year basis.
