Salary Range: $7900 – $8417 per month

Appointment Type: At-Will

Time Base: Full Time

Work Schedule: Monday – Friday 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM; occasional early morning, evening, or weekend hours

About the Position

Government and Community Relations initiates and maintains Cal State Fullerton’s connection and relationship between local, state, and federal officials and the university. The office advocates for the university and acts as a central point for those interested in developing a relationship with the institution. The office provides periodic updates to legislative delegations on campus programs and funding priorities, especially during difficult budget times.

The office works cooperatively with CSU’s offices of advocacy and state and federal relations.

Director Responsibilities
  • Cultivate and maintain relationships with local elected and appointed officials.
  • Recruit key university support groups related to community relations and university priorities.
  • Develop partnerships with local government and community entities to support and enhance the university’s goals and reputation.
  • Collaborate with the Associate Vice President and Senior Director of Government Relations and Advocacy to grow funding streams for impactful programs.
  • Measure and report on the university’s local and regional impact using data to drive continuous improvement.
  • Meet regularly with faculty, deans, associate deans, administrators, and staff to match campus expertise with external needs.
  • Develop programs and partnerships to engage individuals and groups in support of campus programs and priorities.
  • Serve as key contact and information gateway for the general community and provide updates on campus projects and priorities affecting external relations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Essential Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four‑year college or university in a related field.
  • Minimum of five years of direct experience within California (non‑profit organization, legislative state, or federal office or agency).
  • High energy individual able to work with minimal supervision exhibiting high levels of attention to detail and follow‑through.
  • Previous supervisory/administrative experience and knowledge of governmental processes.
  • Must be able to work with a broad range of constituents through networking and/or strong oral/written communication skills.
  • Background check (including a criminal records check) must be completed satisfactorily and is required for employment.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Previous experience working with local government officials specifically in Orange County.
  • Familiarity with Orange County and California state and federal legislative delegations.
  • Knowledge of the County of Orange, Fullerton, Anaheim, Santa Ana, and Placentia areas.
