Senior Software Engineer – Air Traffic Systems (WAAS)

Onboard Collins Aerospace’s Avionics group to support the design, development, integration, and verification of the safety‑of‑life Wide‑Area Augmentation System (WAAS) used by federal aviation authorities.

• Design, develop, and test software for processing, analyzing, and presenting high‑capacity data from safety‑critical, real‑time satellite‑based systems.
• Collaborate with the software and leadership teams to support cost and schedule objectives.
• Participate in formal and informal software integration and test activities.
• Contribute to software qualification testing that meets DO‑178B requirements.
• Maintain and update software process documentation and work instructions to align with DO‑178B standards and company processes.
• Coordinate with cross‑discipline teams to meet program milestones.

• Expertise in developing tools for large‑scale performance data analysis from real‑time safety‑critical systems.
• Comprehensive knowledge of the product life cycle of safety‑critical systems.
• Skills essential for shaping the future of aviation technology on a global scale.

• Degree in Science, Technology, Engineering, or Mathematics (STEM) with 2–5 years of experience or an advanced degree.
• U.S. citizenship.
• Experience in UNIX/Linux environments, C programming, structured programming, and the full software development lifecycle.
• Proficiency in software testing (unit, integration, system) and source code debugging.
• Experience with source code configuration management systems such as Clear Case, Clear Quest, Jira, and Bit Bucket/Git.

• Experience with C99, Python, SQL, MATLAB, and scripting languages (bash/ksh/Perl).
• Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and kernel development.
• Knowledge of Agile, continuous integration, and automated testing concepts.
• Prior WAAS experience or familiarity with WAAS processes.
• Experience with web application development (HTML, CSS, JQuery, C#, PHP, JSON, VBScript, JavaScript, Angular).
• Knowledge of safety‑critical software requirements and DO‑178B standards.
• Experience with cybersecurity implementation.
