Position SummaryThe Head Coach – Women’s Soccer leads the program in fostering athletic excellence, Christian discipleship and values, and holistic student development. As a member of the Royals Athletic Department, the Head Coach plays a critical role in advancing the mission, vision, and core values of Hope International University by mentoring student‑athletes in their academic, athletic, and spiritual growth. The position requires professionalism, accountability, and a commitment to creating a Christ‑centered team culture.
Duties & Responsibilities- Develop, mentor, disciple, and coach a team in accordance with the university’s Christian mission and compliance with all league/conference guidelines
- Model caring relationships with students through personal interaction and as an effective role model of a committed Christian life
- Continuously ensure that student behavior and program reputation are in alignment with institutional values and brand
- Discuss annual budget needs for the sport with the athletic director, including equipment, meals, transportation, and facility rental
- Organize an annual balanced schedule, meaning an equal number of home and away games; schedule games with coaches from other colleges; submit schedules to the Athletic Director for approval and distribution of contracts. When creating schedules, DO NOT schedule games on holidays or Sundays
- Submit the names of all student‑athletes to the Compliance Officer to begin the process of eligibility certification
- Deliver quotes for all equipment to the Athletic Director (AD)
- Ensure that all athletes have a completed physical on file at the Athletic Trainer’s office before the first practice in their sport
- Distribute a travel schedule itinerary to all student‑athletes and the AD for each road trip
- Before the season begins, complete transportation request forms for all away matches and any other transportation needs and return them to the Operations Department
- Recruit student‑athletes that reflect the values and admissions standards of HIU
- Coach the team to win; however, the development of character in the Christian student‑athlete is more important than winning
- Conduct practices in a manner that reflects professionalism, a Christ‑like witness, and a concern for the total welfare of the student‑athlete, including their physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual development
- Plan and facilitate a minimum of one on‑campus and one off‑campus team bonding/development event per academic year

Education/Experience- A master’s degree is preferred
- Demonstrated coaching experience at the collegiate level
- Experience teaching in higher education is preferred
- A vibrant and authentic Christian faith and worldview consistent with the University’s mission and values are required
- Regular church attendance and a demonstrated commitment to worship, learn, and serve
- Comprehensive understanding of laws and regulations governing intercollegiate athletics
- Familiarity with accounting principles and budget management for athletic programs
- Background in sport psychology is advantageous
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication abilities
- Proficiency in basic computer applications
- Capacity to operate independently within established responsibilities while contributing to a collaborative, team‑oriented environment
- Ability to manage multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast‑paced setting
- Work effectively with diverse groups of people
- Clearly articulate ideas and directions to staff and athletes
- Demonstrate confidence in abilities and remain adaptable to changing circumstances
- Regular use of a computer monitor
