The Veterinary Assistant assists veterinarians and technicians with patient care and treatment, monitors hospitalized pets, maintains inventory, prepares prescriptions, performs routine in‑house laboratory work, educates clients about veterinary care and procedures, and supports surgical procedures.

USD $14.00 – $18.00 per hour

- Organization Skills – track lab specimens, medications, patient instructions, and workflow while managing multiple patients.
- Client Satisfaction – ensure all interactions result in the highest level of client satisfaction.
- Assist veterinarians in the practice of veterinary medicine and surgery.
- Assist with outpatient exams: take histories, record vital signs and weights, provide client education.
- Prepare patients for surgery and monitor vital signs during procedures.
- Obtain blood, stool, and other samples; perform in‑hospital laboratory testing and prepare specimens for outside labs.
- Take, develop, and maintain radiographs following proper safety procedures.
- Provide basic animal handling and restrain animals during exams.
- Administer and monitor medications, anesthesia, vaccines, and treatments at the veterinarian’s discretion.
- Clean and straighten exam rooms, treatment areas, and labs; restock supplies; keep public areas clean; maintain medical equipment.
- Demonstrate warmth, courtesy, and professionalism with clients and patients.
- Communicate with veterinarians and practice team regarding client discussions, patient plans, concerns, etc.
- Perform any other duties as assigned.
- Previous veterinary experience preferred.
- Ability to lift patients or carry equipment up to 25 lb; assistance required for >25 lb.
- Practice OSHA safety techniques including proper PPE.
- Basic math for calculating medication dosages.
- Basic computer skills (e.g., MS Office).
- Strong communication skills to ensure patient safety.
