Position Purpose
Serves as a member of the school administrative team and assists the principal in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets in a manner that promotes the educational development of each student and the professional development of each staff member.
Minimum Qualifications- Extensive knowledge of best practices to ensure the academic growth of all students
- Extensive knowledge of school-based management, curriculum, organizational patterns, school operations, and student services
- Extensive knowledge of the evaluation process of professional staff
- Considerable knowledge of computer skills, including e‑mail, Microsoft Office, Google Apps, and instructional technology
- Excellent customer service skills
- Critical thinking and problem‑solving skills
- Ability to communicate information clearly and concisely in oral and written form using a variety of communication techniques and tools to ensure the appropriate flow of information, collaborative efforts, and feedback
- Ability to complete complex tasks and minimize errors with attention to detail
- Ability to maintain a highly motivated staff by providing a healthy and safe work environment and by communicating with employees in an honest, fair, and timely manner using sound judgment
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with school system staff, students, parents, and the community
- Master’s degree from a regionally accredited college or university in School Administration
- Three years of previous teaching experience
- Hold or be qualified to hold a North Carolina Professional Educator’s License for School Administrator – Principal
- Must hold and maintain a valid motor vehicle operator’s license according to the State of North Carolina requirements
- Experience working in or supporting high‑needs schools
- Knowledge of and experience with the North Carolina Education Evaluation System (NCEES) for evaluating professional staff
- Assist the principal in developing and implementing policies, programs, curriculum activities, and budgets to promote student and staff development
- Assist with the development of a master schedule and related duty assignments; assist with student orientation and registration activities
- Assist in the preparation and management of the school budget and allocations according to local, state, and federal policies and regulations; involve school staff in setting budget priorities
- Provide direction to school staff in implementing goals and plans to ensure procedures and schedules are carried out effectively
- Ensure awareness of Wake County Public School’s board of education policies among school staff
- Ensure the school is compatible with the legal, financial, and organizational structure of the school system
- Coordinate the development and implementation of a school discipline policy consistent with Wake County Public Schools board policy on Student Rights and state law
- Follow and review the School Improvement Plan throughout the school year; implement a system for regular self‑assessment and adjust as needed
- Assist with developing instructional objectives and involve faculty in creating specific curricular objectives to meet program needs
- Supervise, observe, and evaluate the performance of school staff according to an annual observation/evaluation schedule; identify effective teaching and learning strategies and communicate the impact
- Maintain records relating to materials, supplies, and equipment necessary to carry out the daily school routine
- Attend meetings, professional development, and conferences to stay abreast of current policies and procedures related to local, state, and federal policies and regulations for public schools
- Establish and maintain relationships with the parent‑teacher organization and other community organizations to foster two‑way communication and activities that promote parent and community involvement
