Learn to assist in the preparation and cooking of various food items prior to being considered a qualified, skilled cook. Maintain food safety and sanitation standards in the preparation and kitchen areas.

• Read menu to estimate food requirements; order food from supplier or procure from storage.
• Prepare and cook food in accordance with company production records and standardized recipes.
• Adjust thermostat controls to regulate temperature of ovens, broilers, grills, roasters and steam kettles.
• Measure and mix ingredients according to recipes using a variety of kitchen utensils and equipment.
• Bake, roast, broil and steam meats, fish, vegetables and other foods under guidance. Add seasoning during mixing or cooking under instruction of others.
• Test food by tasting, smelling and piercing to determine it is cooked.
• Carve meat, portion food on serving plates, and add gravies, sauces and garnishes to fill orders as directed.
• Wash, peel, cut and shred fruits and vegetables.
• Butcher chicken, fish and shellfish as directed.
• Bake bread, rolls, cakes and pastry as instruction permits.
• Maintain work area and equipment; follow principles of sanitation and safety in handling food and equipment.
• Interact with customers and coworkers in a courteous, efficient and friendly manner.
• Ensure compliance with company service standards and inventory and cash control procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Experience preferred but not required. Must follow safety and sanitation procedures and be able to work flexible hours.
