Basic Job Functions- The Workforce Development Specialist I is an entry‑level position. This individual‑contributor role is part of a team responsible for implementing project tasks and activities required for workforce recruitment, training and development of production operations and maintenance associates. The associate is expected to be passionate about education and development of people, committed to the continued development of the First Solar training program and to continuously improve training solutions and problem‑solving skills.
Responsibilities include creation of high‑quality training content, onboarding new associates, and collaborating with production leadership on delivery and validation of training (mostly on‑the‑job or classroom based). The Specialist I should have good interpersonal skills for cross‑functional collaboration and deliver training in all aspects of work (safety, quality, technical, problem solving and leadership). This is an on‑site (not remote) position.
- Entry‑level position with demonstrated behavioral and technical skills that can contribute to:
- Developing training material (multi‑media forms)
- Work in teams and facilitate groups through training
- Assist in data gathering and reporting
Actively working toward a college degree in a technical discipline, HR organizational development, or an educational degree in a STEM field is preferred.

- Facilitate new‑hire onboarding and related data gathering and reporting
- Contribute to multidisciplinary teams to determine training needs and improvements across safety, quality, technical, problem‑solving, and leadership areas
- Develop, deliver, and maintain training solutions with consistent format, high‑quality professional form, and appropriate supplements (reference guides, video, verification tools)
- Print and ensure all training documentation on the production floor is up‑to‑date and properly located
- Develop own skills on training tools and methods (instructional design, OJT methods, video production, MS forms, online/virtual forms, SCORM, validation methods)
- Assist trainers, crew training advocates, and supervisors to ensure they have training material needed; assist with training status reporting and verification of training completeness and effectiveness
- This position will not have direct reports.
- 0‑10 % travel. If hired during plant start‑up, expected to travel to other First Solar locations for training.
- $17.84 – $25.00 per hour.
Physical Requirements
- Will sit, stand, or walk short distances for up to 12 hours per day.
- Will climb stairs or steps frequently.
- Will lift up to 58 pounds on an occasional basis; up to 37 pounds frequently.
- Will push or pull up to 50 pounds of force on an occasional basis; up to 37 pounds frequently.
- Will use hands to grasp, lift, handle, carry or feel objects frequently.
- 20/40 vision in each eye separately; both eyes with or without correction; ability to distinguish red, yellow, and green and peripheral vision >70 degrees required.
- May reach above shoulder heights and below the waist frequently.
- May stoop, kneel, or bend on an occasional basis.
- Must comply with all safety standards and procedures.
