Engineer
- Wastewater and Recycling II USA

Primary responsibility is to monitor and improve process operations and equipment in the recycling, process water & wastewater plant at the DNM site, ensuring compliance with First Solar, local, and federal safety & environmental regulations. The role involves coordinating process improvement activities, managing project contractors and vendors, and overseeing construction teams to complete projects safely, on time, and within budget. Supports new plant design concept development, detailed engineering design reviews, vendor selection, project planning, and plant startup/commissioning.

International travel may be required.

Location will be determined and will be communicated at the time of offer. Candidates must be willing to relocate to any First Solar location and relocation assistance may be provided where applicable.

Education / Experience
  • Bachelor’s engineering degree with 3-5 years’ experience in chemical process improvements including product quality improvement, chemical process optimization, transitioning R&D processes into manufacturing, and enhancing equipment life.
  • Experience managing consultants, vendors, and contractors in chemical process design upgrades.
  • Experience in material handling systems design, piping design, and process control design.
  • Experience managing plant equipment preventive maintenance programs.
  • Experience with new plant startup, process troubleshooting, and hazardous material handling.
  • Project management experience for chemical processes and/or mechanical systems (scope, schedule, cost).
Required Skills / Competencies
  • Ability to read and interpret Process & Instrumentation Drawings, detailed engineering design drawings, and Bill of Materials.
  • Strong statistical analysis and chemical process development skills.
  • Strong drive to translate ideas into practical solutions in chemical process manufacturing.
  • Project management skills to control project schedule & financial budget.
  • Chemical process operations skills with ability to coordinate engineering activities with night‑shift operations and multiple vendors/contractors.
  • Industrial equipment erection, installation, startup, and troubleshooting experience.
  • Strong mechanical and process control aptitude with troubleshooting skills.
  • Fluent computer skills in MS Word, MS Excel, MS Project, MS Access, and AutoCAD.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills in English & Vietnamese.
Essential Responsibilities
  • Develop, evaluate, and implement novel approaches to continuously improve water, wastewater, and recycling plant processes to support solar panel manufacturing operations.
  • Conduct plant process material balance studies & develop techniques to improve recovery rates of precious metals and reduce Cd emissions in effluent streams.
  • Conduct process effluent stream sampling and process water consumption studies to support waste minimization & overall water consumption reduction projects.
  • Lead troubleshooting of chemical process problems and implement corrective actions to improve process efficiency, product quality, and reduce operating cost.
  • Monitor and improve equipment uptime by managing preventive maintenance programs.
  • Develop engineering process design specification packages for vendor selection and construction project planning.
  • Work with purchasing to establish acceptable technical terms and conditions for global recycling & water treatment equipment and projects.
  • Assist management in developing capital budgets and coordinating project activities to ensure deliverables are met on time and within budget.
  • Work with site & corporate teams to ensure safety & compliance goals are met.
  • Lead startup of new processes and/or process modifications at existing/new plant sites.
  • Develop new process operating procedures and train operations crew members, including night shifts.
  • Create effective communications to foster team building.
  • Strict adherence to all safety procedures and good housekeeping standards.
Travel
  • 10% – 20% travel.
  • International travel may be required.
  • If hired during plant startup, travel to other First Solar locations for training is required.
