INSIDE PLANT (ISP) STRUCTURED CABLING TECHNICIAN – The primary responsibilities of the ISP Structured Cabling Technician is to support the installation of fiber and copper cabling materials related to Telecom builds. These include both large and small scale buildouts through multiple forms of conveyance including overhead or underfloor infrastructure such as ladder rack, basket tray, fiber guide, J‑Hooks or EMT.
Responsibilities- Maintain a safe and controlled environment, following all site protocols during activities in various assigned work sites. Understand and apply best practices for cabling routing and diversity requirements as well as dressing standards.
- Arrive on time and prepared to work with required tools and Personal Protection Equipment (PPE). Demonstrate an understanding of productivity and adapt to team suggestions to maximize accomplishments under time restrictions.
- Work comfortably around other trades and help create a mutually productive work environment.
- Respect safety and security protocols related to industry and site‑specific access in campus and data center environments.
- Keep work sites clean and organized throughout the workday.
- Read and adhere to written scopes of work and supporting documentation including engineered drawings, patching matrices, and BOM.
- Serve as a team player that coordinates and communicates activities with other employees, departments, and management.
- Proficiency with basic hand tools: snips, socket sets, screwdrivers, pliers, wire cutters, strippers, and crimpers.
- Knowledge of cable installation practices: dressing, lacing, structured cabling implementation, simple network design, redundancy concepts.
- Knowledge to operate scissor lifts and/or other simple machinery used in ISP builds.
- Competency with technical devices and related software or applications to operate laptops, tablets, and/or cell phones for field support and communication.
- Knowledge of fiber optic and copper cable designs, types, and manufacturer specifications for optimal installation and cable protection.
- Understanding of basic termination methods and connector types for copper and fiber, including handling and cleaning best practices.
- Proficiency with labeling equipment and applications for efficient cabling projects per customer specifications.
- Knowledge of manufacturers and installation practices related to cabling conveyance, ladders, baskets, fiber guides, EMT, racks, cabinets, and termination panels.
- Proficiency with troubleshooting methods, cable testing processes, testing equipment, and validation documentation.
- Must be able to travel.
- Competency with measuring tools, including lasers, and precision following direction and implementing instructions.
- Good work ethic and a willingness to learn.
- Ability to pay close attention to detail and make sound decisions based on information given.
- Must hold a valid driver’s license and satisfactory driving record.
- Physical ability: sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, and crawl; lift 75 lbs. Work in all weather conditions.
- Education and Experience:
1‑5 years of relevant job experience; relevant job experience described as experience in similar industry or with similar essential duties.
- High School/GED: 1‑5 years of relevant job experience.
