Minimum Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five (5) years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma and seven years of appropriate experience.
Job Description :
Performs on site construction inspections to ensure compliance with adopted codes, approved plans and specifications. Approves installation of materials and methods for compliance with adopted codes.
These inspections may involve general construction, structural, roofing, mechanical, plumbing and/or electrical disciplines in accordance with the inspector's background, training and certification. Prepares written inspection reports for use by the contractor and owner.
Reviews construction plans and specifications for compliance with currently adopted standard building, mechanical, plumbing and electrical codes in accordance with the inspector's background, training and certification. Prepares written reports approving or rejecting construction plans in accordance with the adopted codes. This individual may represent the department in their area of expertise to various groups such as architects and or engineers, contractors or subcontractors.
Make decisions as to code interpretations in their area of expertise. Normally, this individual will have certification in several areas of plan review as defined by state statutes.
Meets with contractors and subcontractors to resolve issues as they relate to the application of the adopted codes. Prepares written minutes of such meetings for inclusion in building files.
Operate UF (state) vehicle to and from inspection sites.
Licensed in two or more disciplines as a building, plumbing, mechanical, fire safety, or electrical inspector by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
Licensed as a building, plumbing, mechanical, fire or electrical plans reviewer by the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation.
NORMAL
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Monday through Friday, 07:30 AM to 04:30 PM
- 40 hours per week
- Occasional travel to offsite construction sites
Expected Salary:
Commensurate with education and experience.
Required Qualifications :
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and five (5) years of appropriate experience; or a high school diploma and seven years of appropriate experience.
Preferred:
EDUCATION & TRAINING:
Bachelor's degree in building construction
EXPERIENCE:
Five (5) years construction experience in each field of experience for which certified inspector and plan reviewer
KNOWLEDGE
- Knowledge of Florida building, mechanical, plumbing, and/or electrical codes
- Knowledge of current construction procedures
- Knowledge of proper building inspection procedures
- Knowledge of Florida state statutes and regulations applying to construction related projects

- Ability to take accurate measurements
- Ability to follow verbal and written instructions
- Ability to deal with the public in a tactful and courteous manner
