Job Description Summary

The Dental Assisting program is an ADA Commission on Dental Accreditation program. Curriculum includes basic dental sciences and didactic theory in current concepts of dentistry. Students gain required clinical experience in the Santa Fe College Dental Clinic, the University of Florida College of Dentistry, and other institutional and private facilities.

Under general supervision, the Adjunct Assistant Professor will develop, prepare, and teach a variety of coursework in Dental Assisting. The Adjunct Assistant Professor must have the flexibility to teach courses during the day, evening, or online, as well as taught using other distance learning formats. Primary assignments consist of clinical dentistry, chair‑side instruction, and laboratory instruction and evaluation. Additionally, the Adjunct Assistant Professor will support the ancillary program policies and procedures and assist lead faculty within Dental Programs.

Part‑time instructional service will be paid at a rate of $822 per semester credit hour and $32.88 per clock/contact hour.

Responsibilities and

Duties Include:

  • Plans, organizes, and delivers instruction to didactic, laboratory and/or classroom settings to promote student success within a community college setting.
  • Supports and promotes the college and departmental missions centered on excellence in teaching and learning through quality instruction, curriculum enhancement, and timely service.
  • Collaborates with the Director, faculty, and peers to evaluate, revise, and develop curriculum that cultivates the mastery of course content.
  • Demonstrates technological literacy and innovation in the delivery of instruction.
  • Works collaboratively as part of a cohesive academic team.
  • Assists with the implementation of college policies, objectives, and functions in accordance with the SF philosophy, mission, strategic initiatives, and procedures.
  • Participates in departmental meetings and college wide committees as needed.
  • Provides students with frequent, timely assessment and clear feedback regarding academic performance.
  • Appropriately documents student progress and maintains records including attendance, grading, and student learning outcomes.
  • Develops methods that fairly and accurately assess students’ progress in achieving the stated learning outcomes/objectives.
  • Maintains appropriate office hours proportionate to the instructional assignment.
  • Strictly honors the privacy and security of student records and other sensitive information according to appropriate state, federal and college regulations, policies, and procedures.
  • Complies with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees, including but not limited to those related to document retention and destruction, FERPA, and confidentiality.
  • Provides service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

QUALIFICATIONS

Required: Dental Assisting faculty must have background in and current knowledge of dental assisting. Faculty providing didactic instruction must have earned at least a baccalaureate degree. Laboratory, preclinical, and clinical faculty must hold any current dental assisting credential required by the state in addition to a Dental Assisting National Board "Certified Dental Assistant" credential. Faculty members teaching additional or expanded dental assisting functions should be credentialed appropriately in those functions as required by the state.

Appropriately licensed dental hygiene faculty are eligible to teach these functions to dental assisting students without obtaining additional certification.

Additional Requirements: A criminal background check will be conducted. Clinical faculty are required to obtain a PPD screening prior to entering clinic, as well as an annual flu vaccination.
