Academic Coach, STEM Student Support Services

Job Description

Summary:

The Final date to receive applications for this position is 11:59pm EST on January 5, 2026. The Academic Coach for STEM3S is responsible for identifying and selecting program participants and for encouraging students throughout their college experience. The Coach helps students successfully graduate by providing personalized coaching, mentoring, academic advisement, assistance with financial aid forms and school applications, guidance on study skills, scheduling tutoring appointments and trips, and driving as needed.

$43,931.00 Annual

Responsibilities and Duties
  • Collaborate with the Coordinator to recruit eligible students for the STEM3S program.
  • Adhere to student eligibility and provide individual orientations of program services.
  • Provide ongoing academic and career advisement, coaching, and mentoring.
  • Assist students with completing transfer applications and financial aid forms.
  • Implement and review assessments with students and advise them on using the results for career development.
  • Track, monitor, and maintain accurate records of student academic progress.
  • Respond to at-risk reporting with appropriate outreach, referral, and follow-up.
  • Provide outreach through class presentations, college events, and other initiatives.
  • Plan university campus tours and cultural events for participants.
  • Partner with the Coordinator to conduct research necessary for project evaluation.
  • Adhere to grant requirements when collecting student data for program evaluation.
  • Assist the Coordinator in completing annual performance reviews and attend consultant meetings.
  • Participate in recruitment, selection, and training of academic subject matter tutors; coordinate tutoring schedules; supervise tutors during sessions.
  • Attend SF trainings and participate in college wide committees, especially TRIO related trainings and Academic Advising Council meetings.
  • Develop and maintain professional relationships with SF, University of Florida, and community constituents.
  • Work closely with the STEM3S staff to effectively and holistically serve students.
  • Comply with all published College Rules, procedures, guidelines, and laws/regulations governing public employees.
  • Strictly honor the privacy, security, and confidentiality of records and other sensitive information.
  • Provide service excellence through courteous, informed, accessible, and professional engagement.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Required:

    A bachelor’s degree in a STEM field, education, psychology, social work, or a related field; or an A.S./A.S. in education, psychology, social work, or a related field with two years of experience as a TRIO Academic Coach. One to two years of experience in TRIO, SSS, Student Affairs, or similar programs that serve underrepresented groups is required.
  • Additional Requirements:

    A criminal background check will be conducted. Applicants must have a valid Florida Class E Operator (driver’s) license and be authorized to drive for the college. Must be able to lift 25 pounds without assistance.
  • Preferred: A master’s degree in a STEM field, education, psychology, social work, counseling, or a related field with three years of professional work experience; demonstrated success in overcoming barriers similar to those of the project’s target population; case management, educational advising, recordkeeping, documentation, and project evaluation experience; strong communication skills; and technological skills.
