Primary Function

Under the direction of the school principal, the Substitute Teacher is responsible for supporting the School and the Diocese of St. Augustine in their mission to evangelize, catechize, and educate youth in a Catholic School environment. The Substitute Teacher shall be a minister of the Gospel and Catholic teaching both academically and behaviorally while at work and in personal life.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
  • Recognize and support the unique Catholic Mission of the School by speaking, acting, and instructing consistent with the teachings of the Roman Catholic Church.
  • Abide by Catholic principles in professional and private life, governing conduct in strict accordance with Catholic moral teachings.
  • Live Gospel values by actively participating in the faith community and modeling the teaching of Jesus in professional and personal behavior.
  • Help build the School’s faith community by planning and participating in school religious and service activities.
  • Plan lessons that implement and achieve academic and Catholic religious curriculum objectives.
  • Demonstrate competence in teaching with current, thorough knowledge of the curriculum and effective communication with students.
  • Use effective methods of evaluation directly related to curriculum objectives and consistently evaluate student progress.
  • Employ a consistent disciplinary approach that promotes self‑direction and a positive self‑image, setting high standards for behavior and managing inappropriate conduct effectively.
  • Maintain a functional and pleasant learning environment.
  • Cooperate with School and Diocesan administration; work effectively with all staff members to promote positive relationships with students and parents. Prompt attendance at scheduled faculty trainings and meetings is required.
  • Enforce School policies and regulations in a professional manner.
  • Maintain confidentiality of information and display sound judgment in dress and general behavior in accordance with the school dress code.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
  • Strong commitment to the mission of fostering lay leadership in the Roman Catholic Church; if a baptized Catholic, must be a practicing Roman Catholic in full communion with the Church. If not baptized, must abide by Catholic principles in professional and private life.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills, including public speaking and presentation.
  • Reliable, punctual, and flexible.
  • Excellent human relations and interpersonal skills; self‑starter, well‑organized, and team player.
  • Available for evening and weekend work as necessary; reliable transportation.
  • Ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
  • Proficiency in computer technology, including word processing, Excel, and related applications; willingness to maintain confidentiality.
  • Flexibility in assessing needs and strategies and adapting appropriately in a ministerial environment.
  • Completion of a criminal history and background check.
  • Professional bearing and clean, neat personal appearance.
  • Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited institution preferred.
  • Certification as a Teacher in the State of Florida preferred.
Physical/Mental Requirements

Coordination and manual dexterity, normal mental and visual capabilities, and the ability to lift as required in a normal office environment. Required activities include walking, sitting, standing, stooping, reaching, talking, handling, hearing, carrying, and keyboarding.
