Lecturer
A Ph.D. degree in Astronomy, Astrophysics, or a closely related field is required. The Department of Astronomy at the University of Florida invites applications for a lecturer position beginning August 16, 2026. This is a full‑time nine‑month, non‑tenure‑accruing position, renewable annually. For full consideration, applications must be received by Dec 17, 2025.
The successful candidate will teach a combination of introductory and upper‑level courses with a teaching load of three courses in the Fall and three courses in the Spring semester. An important goal is to support and expand experiential learning in the department curriculum at all levels. Examples of experiential learning include telescope site visits, direct research participation, and/or development of internship programs.
UF offers facilities for hands‑on learning, including the Campus Teaching Observatory, Rosemary Hill Observatory, instrumentation laboratories, and the Hi Per Gator computer cluster.
The successful applicant will also gain access to UF's world‑class research facilities and telescopes, including the 10.4‑m Gran Telescopio Canarias in Spain, the Dharma survey telescope in Arizona, and the MINERVA Australis exoplanet RV array. UF hosts Hi Per Gator , a high‑performance computer, and the newly founded Astraeus Space Institute.
UF is the state’s oldest, largest, and most comprehensive land‑grant university, located in Gainesville, Florida.
