Description

CPH is seeking a talented Project Engineer III in Water/Wastewater to join our Gainesville, FL market. This is a position for a Florida licensed engineer who possesses strong technical expertise in the utility space.

This is a fantastic opportunity for an individual with a comprehensive skill set across environmental, water/wastewater, water resources, stormwater, and public utilities. A licensed Professional Engineer who not only has the hands-on technical experience and knowledge, but also the understanding and track record of success in delivering projects in alignment with quality standards set forth by the client as well as knowledge of permitting and compliance.

The Ideal Candidate

The ideal candidate would combine strong technical expertise with effective people skills and a dynamic personality. The ability to work with project engineers, junior staff, disciplines, and clients, along with excellent communication, is essential. A high sense of business acumen and a detail-oriented approach to team alignment and project quality control are highly desirable. A proven track record of delivering projects with minimal client risk and strong quality control is attractive.

Position

Scope

The Project Engineer III – Water/Wastewater leads engineering projects by overseeing all technical and management aspects throughout the project lifecycle. This role requires significant expertise in water, wastewater, and stormwater systems, including design, permitting, compliance, and construction operations. The Project Engineer III acts as a technical lead and subject matter expert, collaborating with project teams and stakeholders to deliver high-quality infrastructure projects.

This position may include leading a satellite office that supports the organization’s strategic goals and builds local relationships to gain market share within the office location.

Primary

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Develop detailed project plans, including defining the scope of work, budgeting, scheduling, and resource allocation for complex water and wastewater projects.
  • Ensure adherence to timelines and budget constraints while meeting client objectives.
  • Provide advanced engineering design expertise, particularly in hydraulic modeling, treatment and storage systems, and water/sewer pumping systems.
  • Lead the development of innovative solutions for transmission, distribution, collection, and storage challenges.
  • Stormwater project experience is beneficial but is not a requirement.
  • Manage all phases of the project lifecycle, from initial feasibility studies through to design, permitting, construction, and close-out.
  • Ensure that project deliverables align with regulatory standards and best practices for water and wastewater infrastructure.
  • Ensure that all projects comply with local, state, and federal regulations, including environmental permitting processes.
  • Act as a liaison with regulatory agencies to secure necessary permits and approvals.
  • Serve as a mentor to junior engineers, providing guidance and feedback to enhance their technical and professional development.
  • Lead and manage project teams to ensure successful project execution.
  • Periodic travel to perform business development, project management, site investigations, and construction administration.
  • Collaborate with project engineers in other offices.
  • Identify project risks and develop mitigation strategies to ensure project continuity and successful outcomes.
  • Contribute to business growth by building client relationships, contributing to proposals, and demonstrating CPH expertise to potential clients.
Required Skills, Education, & Experience
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook; familiarity with Deltek Vision and Smartsheet or similar software platforms.
  • Water

    CAD, AutoCAD, REVIT, Bio Win, Blue Beam, ICPR experience is a plus.
  • Ability to exercise critical thinking and good independent judgement.
  • Ability to work independently as well as collaboratively with a team.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to effectively multi-task and work on multiple projects while adhering to project schedules and budgets.
  • Flexibility in work schedule to accommodate travel to meetings and project deadlines.
  • Detail oriented, quality conscious, reliable and self-motivated.
  • B.S. in Civil/Environmental Engineering with a P.E. License in the state of Florida.
  • Ability to obtain additional state licensure through reciprocity is a plus.
  • At least 8+ years of relevant experience in a consulting engineering firm.
  • Proficiency in REVIT, AutoCAD, Sketch Up and Adobe Suite or Blue Beam experience is a plus.
  • Proficiency in MS Office, including Word, Excel and Outlook.
