This is an advanced technician position within a highway materials testing facility, responsible for supporting the Department’s statewide pavement evaluation program. The role includes operating the 3D Imaging Profiler vehicle across Florida to conduct annual pavement condition surveys in accordance with Department procedures and standards. The position also performs field evaluations of public road sections required for the Federal Highway Performance Monitoring System (HPMS) and assesses pavement condition and serviceability levels, including the measurement of physical distress when applicable.
The technician retrieves, processes, and analyzes pavement condition data; verifies accuracy and completeness; and uploads results to the Department’s database following established guidelines. The position is responsible for ensuring timely calibration, routine maintenance, and proper functionality of the testing vehicle and all associated equipment, as well as maintaining thorough, accurate documentation of all activities. During field operations, the technician utilizes interactive tools such as GPS and GIS to identify pavement sections, confirm location characteristics, review historical performance trends, and visualize multi-year pavement condition information to ensure validity and reasonableness of collected data.
The position operates within the Pavement Section, where previous mobile testing experience is preferred.
- Performs Pavement Materials Data collection, processing, and reporting independently
- Conducts Quality Assurance/Quality Control of testing data
- Operates, maintains, and calibrates pavement testing equipment.
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Organized and highly motivated
- Experienced and safe driver
- Fluent in using a computer and with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint)
- Technical writing skills
- Basic mechanical skills to address equipment issues in the field.
- Works well independently and in team environments
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
Schedule:
Monday-Thursday 7:00am-5:30pm

A valid Florida driver’s license required. Overnight travel required.
