Minimum Requirements:
A bachelor's degree in an appropriate area of specialization and one (1) year of appropriate experience. Appropriate college coursework may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
Expected Salary: $19.16 to $27.78 /hr
Responsibilities- Takes lead role in day-to-day activities of the chemical waste management group, including collection, segregation, packaging and disposal of chemical wastes.
- Develops and delivers training programs to hazardous waste generators to ensure compliance with state and federal requirements.
- Conducts independent review and interpretation of federal and state regulations.
- Coordinates disposal scheduling and related activities, interacting with chemical waste companies and university representatives.
- Prepares regulatory paperwork for hazardous waste shipments.
- Assists in hiring, training, and review of technical OPS assistants.
- Works on special projects for department head as required.
- Conducts independent research projects to develop and evaluate new technologies for chemical waste management.
- Generates reports for department director, Florida DEP and federal EPA as required by law.
- Educates university community regarding application of regulations and safe use of hazardous chemicals, developing guidance documents; contacts principal investigators and laboratory staff.
- Attends professional meetings and workshops when feasible and reviews chemical journals to maintain professional credentials and certifications.
- Supervises spill cleanup and related activities.
- Participates in hazardous material response team training and Annual EPA training.
- Education and Experience: Bachelor's degree in an appropriate area with at least one year of experience. Preferred:
Two years of related experience and coursework in general/or organic chemistry. - Experience: Two or more years working in chemical or radioactive waste management.
- Knowledge: Basic safety principles, chemistry, regulations for chemical & radioactive waste, hazardous materials shipping, emergency response, radioactivity protection.
- Abilities: Understand and apply rules, work independently, plan and coordinate tasks, communicate verbally and in writing.
- Post offer health assessment, valid Florida driver's license, criminal background check required.
