Position Overview

As Senior Planner at JBPro, you will play a key role in supporting the Planning Director and leading complex planning projects for both public and private sector clients. This position bridges high-level project execution with strategic guidance, helping to shape the future of communities through land use planning, community engagement, and regulatory guidance. You’ll help manage projects, mentor junior staff, and serve as a knowledgeable and trusted point of contact for clients, agencies, and stakeholders.

What

You’ll Do
  • Support and lead planning initiatives such as comprehensive plans, land development regulations, school planning assessments, and related studies.
  • Collaborate with government agencies, developers, elected officials, and internal teams to ensure alignment and successful project outcomes.
  • Conduct day-to-day review and processing of development applications, including site plans, subdivisions, variances, special exceptions, and zoning requests.
  • Ensure compliance with local land development regulations, zoning codes, and comprehensive plans.
  • Coordinate with applicants, staff, and the public to guide projects through the approval process.
  • Prepare staff reports and provide technical support to planning boards and elected officials.
  • Facilitate consistent, orderly development while protecting community character and ensuring regulatory compliance.
  • Assist in the oversight and management of planning projects, including timelines, deliverables, and coordination with team members and clients.
  • Apply advanced knowledge of planning principles, regulations, and best practices to project work.
  • Facilitate and lead community engagement efforts including public workshops, stakeholder meetings, and outreach events.
  • Develop clear, compelling planning documents and reports using both quantitative and qualitative data.
  • Present findings and recommendations to clients, agencies, and public forums.
  • Provide mentoring and guidance to junior planners and support staff.
  • Conduct research and data analysis, including the use of GIS tools, to support planning decisions and project deliverables.
  • Stay current on trends and issues in urban planning, land use, transportation, infrastructure, and economic development.
  • Contribute to a positive, solutions-focused culture within the planning team and across departments.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s degree in Urban Planning, Geography, Public Policy, or a related field (Master’s preferred).
  • 3–6 years of professional planning experience, ideally including both public and private sector projects.
  • Demonstrated experience in managing or supporting planning projects and working with multidisciplinary teams.
  • Proficiency in GIS software (e.g., ArcGIS Pro, ArcGIS Online).
  • Excellent communication skills—both written and verbal—with the ability to clearly present ideas to a variety of audiences.
  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
  • AICP or AICP-Candidate preferred (or eligible within 12 months).
