Overview
Responsible for maintaining inventory and control of controlled substances, issue and delivery of these items, record preparation and record auditing, and serving as the primary resource individual for questions/requests for controlled substances. Competencies required for Pharmacy Technician Level 3 must be completed and successfully assessed within 6 months of start date and at annual evaluation thereafter.

Education, Experience, and Training:
- 1. Must meet all requirements of a Pharmacy Technician Level 2.
- 2. In addition to #1 - one of the following requirements must be met for minimum training or minimum experience in lieu of training:
- a. 12 months of Shands Pharmacy Technician Level 2 experience and completion of all required competencies
- b. 6 months of Shands Pharmacy Level 2 experience and one of the following:
- i. Two years hospital pharmacy experience
- ii. Three years retail pharmacy experience
- 3. Successfully complete the National Pharmacy Technician Certification Exam (PTCB).
- 4. Demonstrate the ability to work independently.
- 5. Demonstrate the ability to contribute to effective working relationships.
- 1. Must know how to operate typewriter, calculator, and computer workstation.
- 2. Must demonstrate the ability to perform mathematical calculations required to prepare medications.
As a condition of employment within the Pharmacy Services Department of Shands Hospital all employees must be accessible by telephone. This requires each employee to provide a valid telephone number to the department Staff Assistant, in order for the department to reach them in the event of hospital need and/or emergency.
Motor Vehicle Operator DesignationEmployees in this position will not operate vehicles for an assigned business purpose.
Licensure/Certification /Registration- 1. All Pharmacy Technicians must be registered with the Florida Board of Pharmacy as a Registered Pharmacy Technician or licensed Pharmacist Intern prior to their first day of employment.
- 2. Must present proof of current Certified Pharmacy Technician (CPhT) status upon employment or obtain national pharmacy technician certification within the first 90 days.
