Striving to make a meaningful difference in the lives of families impacted by co-occurring mental health and substance use disorders, the Clinical Counselor - Family Intensive Treatment (FIT Team) provides responsive, evidence-based, therapeutic mental health and substance abuse crisis-oriented services, focusing on the strengths and resources needed for the goals of client recovery and overall wellbeing. This involves providing immediate access to treatment in the community, providing appropriate individual, family and group therapy, and supporting clients in exploring multiple pathways to recovery.

The goal is to help parents and caregivers make lasting therapeutic changes that will positively impact the lives of children, reducing the number of out-of-home placements and re-entries into the child welfare system. Primary Job Functions

1. Provide responsive, evidence-based, therapeutic mental health and substance abuse crisis-oriented services, focusing on the strengths and resources needed for the goals of client recovery and overall wellbeing.

Clinical Services (50%)

  • Provide immediate access to substance use and co-occurring mental health treatment in the community, managing a caseload of no more than 15 patients, consistently achieving established productivity goals.
  • Use evidence-based practices to respond to mental/behavioral health challenges and to reduce the potential for future crises.
  • Provide continued crisis stabilization and care coordination as indicated; coordinate services with first responders, when needed.
  • Provide appropriate individual, family and group therapy, supporting clients in exploring multiple pathways to recovery, including harm reduction, medication assisted treatment (MAT) and abstinence.
  • Identify family-driven pathways to recovery and promote sustained recovery through cultural and gender-sensitive treatment and involvement in recovery-oriented services and supports.
  • Oversee the behavioral program or treatment interventions associated with the client’s treatment plan; promote increased engagement and retention in treatment.
  • Make collateral contacts to assess client progress and functioning.
  • Engage in community networking and support to build relationships with law enforcement, community resource organizations, behavioral health organizations and local agencies.
  • Rotate weekend on-call crisis management with other team members.
  • Ensure appropriate processes are followed for informed consent and HIPAA compliance.

Child Welfare-Related Services (30%)

  • Facilitate concurrent planning between child welfare case planning and treatment plan goals, to integrate the family's strengths and needs with their dependency case plan.
