Job Description:
The Lastinger Center for Learning seeks a highly organized, proactive, and knowledgeable Data Privacy and Compliance Manager to serve as the Center's lead Data Steward. This role will establish, manage, and mature the Center's data governance framework, with a specific focus on supporting our academic research teams.
The successful candidate will be responsible for ensuring data quality and integrity, developing and overseeing data access and sharing protocols, championing data privacy best practices, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations (e.g., FERPA, IRB requirements, funder mandates), and coordinating the Center’s Data Stewardship Committee.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:
- Data Stewardship and Governance Leadership (Lead Data Steward)
- Data Privacy and Compliance Management
- Data Access and Request Management
- Data Stewardship Committee Coordination
- Collaboration and Communication
Key responsibilities:
- Serve as the primary point of contact and authority for data governance and stewardship for the Center's academic research data.
- Develop, implement, and maintain Center-wide data governance policies, standards, and procedures in collaboration with stakeholders.
- Champion data quality and integrity initiatives; develop and implement frameworks for data quality assessment, monitoring, and remediation.
- Define and document data definitions, metadata standards, and data lineage for key research datasets.
- Promote data literacy and best practices in data management among research teams and Center staff.
Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in an appropriate area and four years of experience in appropriate area; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Master’s degree preferred.
- Preferred qualifications include a Bachelor’s degree in Data Management, Information Systems, Computer Science, Law, Public Policy, Research Administration, or a related field.
- Minimum of 5-7 years of experience in data governance, data management, data privacy, or compliance roles, preferably within an academic, research, or non-profit environment.
- Demonstrated knowledge of data privacy laws and regulations (FERPA is essential; familiarity with HIPAA, GDPR, and other relevant regulations is desirable).
