Facilities Maintenance Superintendent

The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Facilities Maintenance Superintendent.

Broward County owns and operates two airports: the Fort Lauderdale—Hollywood International Airport and the North Perry general aviation airport. The mission of the Aviation Department is to operate safe and secure facilities that are cost‑effective and meet community needs.

General Description

This position is responsible for managing maintenance and repair activities for county‑owned airports and related facilities in a 24/7 environment. It involves coordinating and supervising subordinate supervisors over skilled tradespersons and labor crews to implement the airport maintenance program, which includes maintaining terminals, runways, roadways, and systems in accordance with FAA regulations and federal, state, and county requirements. The role plans and executes preventative maintenance programs, analyzes time, labor, and material requirements, and supervises subordinates to foster high performance and positive morale.

Other responsibilities include hiring trades personnel, serving as a subject‑matter expert for maintenance contracts, sustainability programs, and capital equipment purchases.

Responsible administrative, supervisory and technical duties administer maintenance programs. Works independently under limited supervision, reporting major activities through periodic meetings.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires ten (10) years of technical experience in building maintenance and construction including one (1) year of lead work/supervisory experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver’s License.

Additional Requirements

Ability to obtain/maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access with Customs and Border Protection seal.

Ability to obtain / maintain Airfield driving privileges.

All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a 24/7 operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.

Preferences
  • Associate Degree or higher in Building Maintenance/Construction Management or related field
  • American Association of Airport Executives (AAAE)/Accredited Airport Executive (AAE) Certification
  • One or more Airport Skilled Trades Advanced Certification (Refrigeration Mechanic, Carpenter, Electrician, Electronic Tech, Plumber, Maintenance Mechanic, or Painter)
  • Facilities Maintenance Certification
  • Project Management Professional Certification
  • 2+ years of Construction Project Management Experience
  • 2+ years of Airport Facility Maintenance & Operations Experience
  • 2+ years of Capital Asset Management Experience (Including Budgets)
  • 2+ years of Maximo Maintenance Management System Software or equal Experience
  • 2+ years of Building Automation Software Experience
