Minimum Requirements
  • A High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Five (5) years of professional, full-time supervisory experience in Maintenance, Construction, or related field
  • Education may substitute for experience on a year-for-year basis
Duties and Responsibilities
  • Directs and administers a building maintenance program, supervising a crew of skilled trades (plumbers, painters, locksmiths, electricians, carpenters, masons, custodians, mechanics) to perform building and facility maintenance efficiently and safely, including managing inmate labor.
  • Monitors, inspects, and maintains facilities with HVAC, plumbing, electrical, and fire protection systems; develops technical scopes of work; coordinates with vendors; and controls quality.
  • Manages maintenance of DPW shop equipment and mechanical equipment, ensuring timely and safe operation.
  • Participates in preparing the annual maintenance budget, identifying resource needs and justifications.
  • Evaluates personnel and initiates training and orientation; reports required training.
  • Maintains records of employee time, work orders, and inspections; prepares reports.
  • Performs employee evaluations and enforces Employee Standards of Conduct.
  • Performs additional duties as required; ensures compliance with hazardous waste regulations; maintains Material Safety Data Sheets; implements accident prevention.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
  • Knowledge of welding, electrical controls, and maintenance of wooden structures, plumbing, and other equipment.
  • Skill in using hand, power, and bench tools; repairing and maintaining wooden structures; brick and cement work; electrical repairs; painting; sharpening and setting cutting equipment; maintaining cleanliness.
  • Ability to determine work priorities, assign work, ensure completion, communicate effectively, establish relationships, and supervise people.
