Responsibilities

3-day work week. Work in a busy hospital with diverse cases and an emphasis on educational development. UFVH is hiring veterinary technicians/nurses for the emergency and critical care service. Duties include working in a 24/7 Emergency & Critical Care Department with flexible schedules and essential personnel status. The University of Florida Veterinary Hospitals comprise Large Animal, Small Animal, and Diagnostic Laboratory services, with on-site and satellite Emergency facilities. The role supports emergency care and critical care services as part of the team.

    • both day time and night shifts available
  • May require working alternate shifts, holidays, and weekends. This position is considered essential personnel and is part of the Emergency Response Team.
Compensation

Veterinary Technician I: $20-27/hr

Veterinary Technician II: $23-32/hr

Qualifications

Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician I:
High school diploma or equivalent and one year of relevant experience. Appropriate college coursework or vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.

Emergency & Critical Care Veterinary Technician II: Credentialed veterinary technician.

  • Prefer applicants with 3-5 years of experience in emergency and/or critical care medicine.
  • Graduation from an accredited veterinary technology program and/or certified veterinary technician or eligible to sit for the VTNE.
  • Knowledge of animal care and nursing, especially critical care.
  • Knowledge of medical terminology, anatomy, and terminology.
  • Knowledge of the equipment and materials used and their availability and applications.
  • Ability to effectively maintain a working environment while in stressful situations.
  • Ability to effectively communicate with employees of various levels and responsibilities.
