Valid driver's license; available to work full time 8:00 am - 5:00 pm, occasional early start 5:00-6:00 am; physical ability to work in various weather conditions and perform manual labor as needed; must be able to lift and carry up to 30 pounds regularly; physical movement to include kneeling, squatting, bending, lifting and standing.

Job Description

The Horticultural Science Department, UF/IFAS Horticultural Science Research Grove is looking for a full-time field technician. The following duties include but are not limited to:

  • Fieldwork involving propagation, planting and cultivation of peaches, citrus and avocado trees.
  • Data collection at experimental trials and analyses in the greenhouse and laboratory.
  • Monitor tree requirements and control measurements on microbial or insect infestations.
  • Maintain maps and records of materials and activities for trials.
  • Assist researchers and personnel with planting, fertilizing, and pruning trees.
  • Collect and prepare samples from trials (fruit, soil, leaf).
  • Travel to research tree fruit locations in central and south Florida.
Salary

Expected Salary: $15-$20/hour commensurate with experience

Required Qualifications
  • Valid driver's license.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Agriculture or related field preferred but not required.
  • Pesticide application license.
  • Familiarity with data collection tools and software.
  • Previous experience in field research or agricultural practices preferred.
  • Effective communication skills for interacting with the research team and local growers.
