Job Description: The College of Dentistry, Department of Oral Biology is seeking applications for a full‑time, non‑tenure track Research Assistant Scientist. The Gibson lab is looking for an individual interested in host‑pathogen interaction and periodontal disease pathogenesis, focusing on microbial and/or host immune mechanisms of disease.
Responsibilities:
- Lead and conduct ongoing research and develop new research directions in host‑pathogen interactions within the Gibson Lab.
- Design experiments and research protocols.
- Collaborate with the PI to define and expand research direction.
- Analyze and interpret data, prepare manuscripts, and present results in the department and at national/international conferences.
- Seek research support for developing new lines of investigation; prior or current experience with grant proposal writing is a plus.
Minimum Requirements:
- PhD or similar terminal degree (including dual‑trained scientists).
- Training and documented expertise in microbiology, host‑pathogen interaction and/or innate immunity, with a focus on anaerobic bacteria linked to periodontal disease or the oral cavity.
- Technical and conceptual expertise with cell culture and animal model systems.
- Experience/understanding with transcriptomics, particularly dual‑transcriptomics approaches characterizing bacterial/host interaction.
- Fundamental understanding of microbial CRISPR‑Cas systems is a plus.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Training in microbiology, host‑pathogen interaction and/or innate immunity focusing on anaerobic bacteria related to periodontal disease or the oral cavity.
- Experience with dual‑transcriptomics approaches in bacterial/host interaction.
- Fundamental understanding of microbial CRISPR‑Cas systems.
Expected Salary: Salary is commensurate with credentials and experience.
