- Oversee laboratory records, documentation, SOPs, chemical inventories, and operational logs.
- Oversee maintenance, calibration, and repair of laboratory equipment and analytical instrumentation.
- Manage procurement, ordering, and inventory of supplies, chemicals, and equipment.
- Serve as primary contact with clients regarding sample intake and analysis.
- Oversee laboratory safety practices and ensure compliance with EH&S.
- Participate in laboratory analysis.
- Work to achieve and maintain laboratory standards required to become a NELAP accredited laboratory, including QA/QC duties and ongoing accreditation activities.
- Perform QA/QC to ensure samples meet NELAP requirements, maintain a clean lab and functional workflow, and train personnel on NELAP protocols.
- Ensure yearly quality testing requirements are completed, and coordinate with the NELAP accreditation body to pursue and maintain certification.
Additional duties include accurate data recording across the research team. The Biological Scientist II will support field work, including potential overnight stays for field sites. The role may involve assisting with the yearly field methods class and aiding students in assessing instrumentation needs and procedures for their projects.
QualificationsRequired: Bachelor’s degree in biology or a related field with three years of experience or Master’s degree in biology or a related field with one year of relevant experience.
Preferred: Master’s degree in Chemistry, Environmental Science, Soil and Water Science, or a closely related field with at least one year of relevant experience.
- Run Total Phosphorus (TP), soluble reactive phosphorus (SRP), and Total Nitrogen (TN) on water samples using a spectrophotometer.
- Experience with IACUC and writing IACUC protocols.
- Ability to follow SOPs, maintain sterile laboratory technique, and document procedures.
- Develop research designs and methods; conduct experiments in the laboratory.
- Write reports and scientific papers describing research findings.
- Collaborate with other research labs and maintain laboratory facilities and safety compliance.
- Maintain accurate lab records and manage data efficiently.
- Communicate effectively with co-workers, staff, residents, and clinicians.
