Position Overview

Maintenance Supervisor – responsible for managing and coordinating the activities of HVAC mechanics engaged in the operation, maintenance and repair of the university’s building HVAC systems. The role requires supervisory oversight, project management, and collaboration with campus stakeholders to ensure high standards of safety and performance.

Monday - Friday, 6:45 a.m. – 3:45 p.m. (40 hours/week). Emergency work as needed;
On‑Call/Standby as required.
Expected Salary: $60,000.00 to $65,000.00 annually

Responsibilities
  • Manages and coordinates activities of HVAC mechanics engaged in the operation, maintenance and repairs of the building HVAC systems.
  • Plans and schedules work for assigned staff, ensuring proper distribution of assignments and adequate staffing levels.
  • Establishes and updates maintenance standards and priorities.
  • Develops, estimates, and manages HVAC improvements and renewal projects for current and future budgeting cycles.
  • Guides and gives assistance to employees engaged in daily HVAC maintenance tasks and projects.
  • Inspects completed assignments to ensure satisfactory work efficiency, methods and practices, safety, and established standards and requirements are satisfactorily met.
  • Establishes and maintains direct personal contact with a wide spectrum of campus community members that are affected and/or concerned with the quality, safety and environmental conditions within the buildings.
  • Consults with customers regarding concerns about maintenance frequencies, standards, etc.
  • Consults, coordinates and plans with other University departments and organizations to provide support for any HVAC deficiencies.
  • Ensures the HVAC personnel are appropriately trained and updated in proper maintenance/operations practices, safety, and regulatory issues.
  • Provides an employee support system for improved efficiencies.
  • Provides feedback to employees regarding performance and the results of HVAC inspections.
  • Performs employee interviews and gives input in the selection of new hires.
  • Reviews and updates HVAC maintenance standards based on the best use of personnel, budget constraints and trades practices.
  • Ensures appropriate PPE and established safety practices and procedures are followed.
  • Establishes equipment and supply maintenance budgets and assures accountability.
  • Initiates the purchase of supplies, services, tools, and equipment in accordance with established purchasing procedures.
  • Plans, develops and manages efficient, economical preventive maintenance of tools and equipment assigned to the HVAC shop, including schedules and activities to ensure prolonged life, usefulness and safety of equipment.
  • Utilizes the department computerized work management system and pertinent management reports to evaluate and improve HVAC maintenance and operational performance.
  • Identifies and recommends any deferred maintenance items.
Required Qualifications
  • Completion of an approved apprenticeship program in a recognized trade and relevant experience totaling five years; or a high school diploma or equivalent and five years of relevant experience.
  • Appropriate vocational/technical training may substitute at an equivalent rate for the required experience.
  • Employee must obtain a Florida Class E Operators License within 60 days of employment.
  • Successful completion of UF Supervisory Challenge within 12 months of hire.
  • EPA Refrigerant Universal Certification Type 2.
Preferred Qualifications
  • NCCER Level 4 HVAC or NATE certification.
