The Broward County Board of County Commissioners is seeking qualified candidates for Maintenance Worker.

General Description

Performs a variety of general building and grounds related maintenance and repairs at the Fort Lauderdale‑Hollywood International Airport. Works under close supervision according to set procedures, but determines how or when to complete tasks. Works in and around the Airport property and grounds with the primary function of keeping the property and grounds clean and free of debris.

Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

Requires three (3) months in maintenance or closely related experience.

Special Certifications and Licenses Required

Possess and maintain a valid Florida Class E Driver’s License based on area of assignment.

Additional Requirements
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Security Identification Display Area (SIDA) access with Customs and Border Protection Seal.
  • Ability to obtain/maintain Airfield driving privileges.
  • All Aviation Maintenance Division employees must be able to perform rotational shift work and/or overtime (holidays, weekends, and emergencies) in support of operational needs in a 24‑hour, 7‑day week operation and in accordance with a collective bargaining agreement, if applicable.
Preferences
  • Florida Department of Transportation (FDOT) Flagger Certification
  • Maintenance of Traffic (MOT) Certification
  • Forklift and Aerial Lift Training Certification
  • 1+ years of Building Maintenance Experience
  • 1+ years of Grounds Maintenance Experience
  • 1+ years of Fence Installation and Repair Experience
  • 1+ years of Airfield and Ramp Driving

Starting wage for this position starts at $17.63/hour.

Duties & Responsibilities
  • Maintain grounds and landscape areas in order to ensure they are presentable, clean, and safe.
  • Patch asphalt, install/mend fences, perform runway/taxiway and roadway repairs, use hand and power tools, and assist trades and other Airport employees as needed.
  • Remove and install signage throughout the Airport campus.
  • Perform various facility maintenance work to ensure a clean, safe environment for the public and County employees, minimize major repair/replacement costs, and extend the useful life of equipment/fixtures.
  • Clean offices, break rooms, restrooms, halls, shop areas, pavilions, sidewalks, and move furniture in order to relocate/rearrange work stations/offices, set up for meetings, activities, and events.
  • Interact with the public and/or other County employees to give directions/information, explain work activities/procedures, identify service needs, and resolve day‑to‑day operational issues.
  • Set out temporary traffic control devices at the work site to provide a safe work environment and facilitate safe, efficient traffic flow.
  • Utilize Computerized Maintenance Management System software to document work activities, track equipment usage, and provide summary information to management.
  • Maintain a variety of landscape and construction related equipment to ensure safe operation, extend useful life, minimize downtime, and reduce major repair/replacement costs.
