Join Gainesville City Schools as a Teacher Resident for Horizon Academy. This role is part of the Teacher Candidate Residency Program, which hires preservice teachers enrolled in a UNG teacher preparation program to be teachers of record during their senior year.
Position OverviewThe Teacher Candidate Residency Program is a competitive program in which preservice teachers enrolled in a UNG teacher preparation program can be hired by school districts to be teachers of record during their senior year.
Essential Functions- Develop and administer curriculum consistent with district goals and objectives.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials, translating lesson plans into learning experiences to develop pertinent sequential assignments, challenge students, and best utilize the available time for instruction.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs, including students with special needs.
- Maintain familiarity with district and state standardized tests to adapt curriculum for maximum student achievement.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay abreast of current educational developments by attending seminars, workshops, professional meetings, or conducting research.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate record‑keeping, grading, and reporting for all student activities, achievement, and attendance as required by district procedures and applicable laws.
- Encourage parental involvement in student education and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure that student conduct conforms to school standards and policies and establish standards of behavior needed to achieve a functional learning environment.
- Coordinate with other professional staff members, especially within grade level, and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate books, instructional aids, and equipment, maintaining inventory records.
- Knowledge of current teaching methods and educational pedagogy, including differentiated instruction based on student learning styles.
- Knowledge of English grammar, word usage, word denotations and connotations, spelling, literature, and other content areas taught.
- Knowledge of data information systems, data analysis, and action planning.
Knowledge of applicable federal and state laws regarding education and students. - Ability to use computer network systems and software applications as needed.
- Ability to organize and coordinate work.
- Ability to communicate effectively with students and parents.
- Ability to engage in self‑evaluation related to performance and professional growth.
Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with colleagues.

- GA Preservice Certificate.
- Enrolled in the University of North Georgia College of Education Educator Preparation Program.
- GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Status as senior in the College of Education (completion of required courses in Degree Works).
- Successful completion of GACE content exams prior to program start.
- Completed Junior Year of College Practicums.
