SUMMARY
:
Under the general supervision of Principal.
Position Purpose
- Develop students' skills and competence in one or more fields of science, including general science, earth science, biology, physiology, chemistry, and physics; develop students' skills and abilities in scientific methods and problem-solving, as well as an understanding of the application of science in the solution of practical problems.
Essential Functions
- Teach knowledge and skills in one or more fields of science in accordance with district curriculum.
- Promote critical and creative thinking and analysis in all related subject areas.
- Promote a classroom environment that is safe and conducive to individualized and small group instruction.
- Develop lesson plans and instructional materials for the subject area, and translate lesson plans into learning experiences.
- Design learning activities to demonstrate the application of science to everyday existence.
- Instruct students in the proper use and care of scientific equipment, chemicals, and plant and animal life.
- Conduct ongoing assessment of student learning and progress, and modify instructional methods to fit individual student needs.
- Maintain familiarity with district and Georgia State standardized tests to adapt curriculum.
- Continue to acquire professional knowledge and stay current with developments in education.
- Organize and maintain a system for accurate and complete record-keeping, grading, and reporting.
- Encourage parental involvement and ensure effective communication with students and parents.
- Ensure student conduct conforms to school standards and establish standards of student behavior.
- Coordinate with other staff members and participate in faculty meetings and committees.
- Select and requisition appropriate instructional aids and maintain inventory records.
Additional Duties
- Perform other related tasks as assigned by the Principal and central office administrators as directed by the Superintendent.
Equipment
- Use standard office equipment: personal computer, printer, copier, fax machine, and telephone.
Travel Requirements
- Travel to school district buildings and professional meetings as required.

Physical and Mental Demands, Work Hazards
- Standard office and school building environments.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
Typical physical demands include some lifting, carrying, pushing, pulling, stooping, kneeling, crouching, and crawling. The job requires approximately 90% sitting, 5% walking, and 5% standing in a clean and healthy environment.

Certification/License
- State Certification as a Science Teacher or required for the position.
- Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to provide own transportation.
Education
- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in an education discipline applicable to the teaching assignment.
Experience
- Successful prior teaching experience for the appropriate grade level preferred.
