EHS and Compliance Senior Specialist

The EHS and Compliance Senior Specialist leads and executes the Environmental, Health, and Safety programs at the Gainesville site in close coordination with North America EHS. The role supports reporting to OSHA, EPA, GA DEP, GA DOL/DOH, DOT, and corporate EHS reporting requirements, and supports new initiatives related to new chemical entities in drug discovery.

• Establish and maintain chemical inventory and related company systems
• Maintain the Safety Data Sheet master file
• Maintain job safety analysis documents
• Conduct new employee safety orientation regularly
• Maintain EHS training records with Learning One Source (LOS) coordinators
• Coordinate EHS training for scientific staff (respirator users, hearing protection, powered industrial trucks)
• Assist with review of Standard Operating Procedures focusing on safety and environmental areas
• Participate in EHS Committee activities and act as Chair of the HSE Committee
• Assist with building tours focusing on HSE needs
• Support Quality and Safety objectives
• Maintain a safe working environment and handle ergonomics (lab and office)
• Assist with OH program, IH program, and accident/incident investigations
• Develop and implement internal audit programs to ensure compliance with regulations and internal policies
• Support day‑to‑day coordination of EHS programs and environmental compliance (contractor safety, LOTO, JSAs, emergency response, fire safety, hearing conservation, ergonomic programs)
• Complete required record keeping/reporting for OSHA, EPA, GA DEP, GA DOL/DOH/DOT, and corporate EHS reports
• Lead implementation and maintenance of risk identification and management processes and communicate risks to business unit management and stakeholders
• Support site emergency response teams and crisis management systems
• Identify areas of noncompliance, resolve issues with functional groups, and track EHS performance improvement plans based on risks
• Support key compliance initiatives on site

• Bachelor's degree in chemistry, science, or engineering with at least three (3) years of demonstrated EHS knowledge/experience
• Strong working knowledge of laboratory operations within the chemical/pharmaceutical industry
• Ability to handle routine and emergency situations reliably and professionally
• Strong communication skills with local management, staff, and government agencies
• Team player and team leader with strong interpersonal skills
• Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize effectively
• Conflict resolution skills and ability to seek assistance when needed
• Decision‑making skills within areas of responsibility
• Transparent communication of failures and a positive attitude toward taking appropriate risks
• Ability to challenge teams and recommend innovative EHS alternatives
