Position Purpose

The 1:1 School Nurse provides individualized nursing care to an assigned student, ensuring their health, safety, and ability to participate fully in the school day.

Essential Functions
  • Provide direct one-on-one care according to the student's healthcare plan, medical orders, and Individualized Education Plan.
  • Administer medications and treatments (e.g., G-tube feeds, respiratory care, seizure management, tracheostomy, ventilator, and other clinical procedures).
  • Monitor the student's health status and respond to medical needs or emergencies.
  • Assist with activities of daily living (ADLs) as required.
  • Document all nursing care and maintain compliance with district, state, and federal guidelines.
  • Communicate and collaborate with teachers, families, and healthcare providers.
  • Accompany the student to classes, transportation, and school activities as needed.
Additional Duties
  • Performs other related tasks as assigned by supervisors or other administrators.

Qualifications
  • Active RN or LPN license.
  • Current CPR/AED certification.
  • Strong clinical assessment and emergency response skills.
  • Pediatric or school nursing experience preferred.
Knowledge,

Skills and Abilities
  • Ability to provide care for ill or injured students.
  • Ability to convey appropriate medical information to school district staff or medical professionals in the school setting.
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide, and perform arithmetic operations as needed for position.
  • Ability to understand, apply and use personal computers and software applications (e.g., Word, Excel, Power point, the Internet, Outlook, electronic mail).
  • Ability to problem solve job-related issues.
  • Ability to work with a diverse group of individuals and students with special needs.
  • Ability to follow oral and written orders from supervisors, administrators, physicians, and to coordinate work with principal, teachers and others.
  • Ability to describe orally and in writing school health services provided, issues and concerns regarding school health.
  • Ability to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships with students, staff and others contacted in the course of work.
Physical Requirements
  • Ability to assist with lifting and mobility needs.
  • Ability to move throughout the school environment.
Equipment
  • Uses medical equipment to provide health care to student, including, but not limited to, blood glucose monitor, stethoscopes, thermometers, sphygmomanometers.
  • Uses personal computers.
